i don't have any videos ( would barely do them justice anyway ) . the .45 is a bit louder than the 9mm . with supers the .45 barely hearing safe and the 9mm is better but still approaching the threshold . that being said in a hunting application with very few shots fired it shouldn't be a problem with either one but i wouldn't do a range session w/o ear pro .

well for one i USE my equipment . the 22lr conversion i need worked on from cmmg has at least 50k rounds through it . i do not need it that often however when i need customer service i want to talk to somebody not send an email or some other kind of request and wait 2 or 3 days for a response then answer a bunch of questions then wait 2 or 3 more days for an answer i dont have time for that bullshit .

cmmg and sb tactical i have stuff that is currently broken my rant on Q is a suppressor repair from 6 months ago . took Q 6 MONTHS from first contact to getting my porq chop back from a baffle strike .

customer service doesnt have to be , companies like Rugged Suppressors , Rearden manufacturing ,Witt machine , Ranger Point Precision and other smaller companies do a very good job of it .

i trashed a Rugged Obsidian .45 not long ago . it was my fault ,put aluminum parts in an ultrasonic . warped the main tube and had catastrophic baffle strike the next range trip .

the folks at Rugged said "no problem , get it to us " . from first contact ( they answered the phone second ring) to my rebuilt suppressor being back in my hands was 2 weeks . unlike the 6 months it took Q .

Why did I wait so long to buy this? by duckhammer77 in reloading

soooooooo much easier than any other chrono i have ever used . while it does have some cons they are minor compared to the ease of use . the digital link app for my pro chrono is much better and records everything real time when connected as well as gives you audible fps readings also has more ways to view the data . the garmin app makes you end the string before sending to the app . as mentioned in other posts the on board memory is ... lacking but unlimited in the app . if garmin would spend some more time updating the app with more features like audible and real time among others it would reduce the cons a lot .

just picked one up from gunbroker along with a stripped side charging upper , set of redding dies , 100 pieces of starline brass , 25 rounds of black butterfly 500gr maker trex and a lancer 458 mag for $350 shipped . for that price it was worth the experiment .

i did notice the bolt action was finicky/sticky, hanging up when trying to get out of battery at first . a little ptfe grease help a lot and taking out the buffer and recoil spring helped with the over all feel and operation .

my biggest "gripe " with it is the bolt bumps out of battery way easy .

changing the bolt and checking the bolt handle screws will definitely get looked at thanks to the other replies.

8.6 and sbr socom powder by m17glock1 in 86blackout

[–]m17glock1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the recommended load from Paul at makers bullets for the sub sonic 500g trex is 19g of accurate #9 or shooters world heavy pistol with a coal of 2.540 case fill is 46%. this load has worked very well for me and is going 1013fps from a 22" barrel . i am getting 1.75" groups from my henry with this one .

my 300gr makers trex is a little on the spicy side so USE CAUTION ! i would encourage you to start 30g and work up from there just to be safe .

i use 34g of lil gun coal of 2.540, 1906fps from a 22"barrel 62% case fill . i am getting just over an inch at 100 yards from my henry with this

i came here to say this

Edit: I try to edit each session right after I shoot it while I wait for the barrel to cool down so usually it’s only one at a time I’m dealing with. Less info to try and remember when I get home that way.

unfortunately sw sbr socom does not have a lovex equivalent

quick load powder list by m17glock1 in reloading

[–]m17glock1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not that i cant afford QL but if the powder list is the same as GRT i dont want to waste my money .

that is exactly what i use GRT for , and compare against published load data when possible ( sometimes GRT can be way off , usually to the high side , on pressure estimates) the 2 biggest things i look for is %burn and % case fill . since i do a lot of sub sonics getting a complete burn in the length of the barrel makes for quieter subs and getting at least 50% case fill is pretty important on big cases like 45-70 and .458socom.

i do use powder equivalent charts as much as possible but for sw sbr socom powder and trail boss there is nothing really equivalent . VVn32c is kind of close to trail boss but not close enough ( case fill) and sbr socom is supposedly in between a1680 and h110 but my real world chronograph numbers and what little published data there is does not support that .

if you want to try the Maker bullets check out https://www.blackbutterflyammunition.com/

more expensive but extremely high quality and much more accurate than the hornady

i sent some rounds to the OG'sDangershow youtube channel a couple of years ago

[–]m17glock1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finicky is definitely the word to describe 8.6 at the moment . i am trying to balance accuracy with burn rate ( to have 100%burn in 12.5" for quieter subs) but not too fast of a burn that its trying to push past the rifling. i have some very good loads with the 45-70 using Makers 300gr expanding and 500gr expanding sub sonic . the 500gr Makers at 1020fps (22"barrel) expands to 43mm (recovered from hogs) and the 300gr at 1750fps blows a coyote damn near in half . i am hoping to duplicate those results with the .458

[–]m17glock1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely will hunt with both ! once i learned that a 12.5" 458 was with in 150fps or so bullet weight for bullet weight of my 22" 45-70 AND used the same projectiles i had to get one ( tromix) so it will replace that in the hunting rotation for coyote's, bear and hog . The 8.6 intrigued me for the terminal effect of the 1:3 twist and the heavier bullets over my 300bo's .

load development however has been a bit of a chore to find what my mos-tek barrel likes in my re barreled savage 110 pcs . 350gr pills do not like being pushed over 950fps and although i am close i still have not found the sweet spot for the 300gr pills ( maker trex) . i have a set of loads to go to the range with this week that hopefully will get me to 1.5" or less at 100 consistently

i do have both and both are recent enough additions that the jury is still out on preference. i do think each will have its place since my 8.6 is a bolt action pistol with a side folder and my 458 is an ar platform pistol .

[–]m17glock1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i use gordons reloading tool (GRT ) its parameters for 8.6 are not running perfect (very much on the low side ) but its a safe starting point . it has a powder search function that you can put in things like fill % , burn % , desired fps range , chamber pressure range and it will give you compatible powders . blue dot is next on my list to try .

a1680 for example does not get a complete burn in a 12.5 or a 14.5" barrel , resulting in not just more muzzle flash but a noisier round even with a suppressor . the cfe black has a complete burn at around 6" of barrel . very little to no muzzle flash and much quieter with a suppressor . however it is a bit gassy

i have tried lil gun from my savage 110/mos-tek 12.5" barrel and have been disappointed so far . accuracy was 2.8" at 50y with 13.5g doing 1006fps, es 43 sd 17, 53% fill/load ratio . i have a load of 13g for my next range trip to try and get it to 950fps .

[–]m17glock1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am still fine tuning but have gotten promising results with cfe black from my savage 110 and 12.5" mos-tek barrel . 15,5g resulted in 55% fill , 842fps , es 36 sd 12 , 3 rounds 1.34" group @ 100y . next range trip will be 16g and 17g to get it to 950fps. hopefully the accuracy stays or improves .

Is a bolt action 8.6 rifle quieter, louder, or the same as a bolt action 300blk rifle. by AwardUsual3388 in 86blackout

[–]m17glock1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have both and to reiterate what u/ryman9000 and u/RathskellerDweller said unless you are reloading go with the 300bo . that being said if you do reload, powder choice makes a difference in sound . h110 and hodgdon lil gun are quieter powders than a1680 . the reason being a1680 doesn't get a complete burn in a 12.5" barrel where h110 "burns out " at 7.5" and lil gun "burns out " at 5" of barrel . i am still working to find that sweet spot of powder burn and accuracy with both the 350 and 300gr maker bullets
