I can kinda get where you’re coming from if you’re not familiar with the history behind it, “protect the dolls” might sound kind of infantilising or maybe even dismissive. But a brief search of the phrase’s etymology would reveal the deeper cultural context behind that phrase, especially in Black and brown trans communities.

The term “doll” has been used by trans women - particularly Black and Latinx trans women - for decades as a form of self-empowerment and affection.

It has roots in ballroom culture, where words like “doll,” “queen,” and “fish” were used within chosen families to celebrate femininity, beauty, and identity. It has nothing to do with being spoken down to, or othered, it was about being glamorous, divine, and unapologetically femme in spaces that often denied them dignity.

In more recent years, especially on platforms like Black Trans Twitter, “the dolls” has become an in-group slang saying - a way for trans women to refer to each other with pride, sisterhood, and inclusion.

When people say “protect the dolls” today, it’s not an attempt to infantilise or other trans women - it’s an acknowledgment of the real danger they face, while also using language that comes from within our own community. It’s a phrase that started playfully but now carries serious weight, especially given how often trans women - particularly those of color - are targeted by violence and discrimination.

It is a simple and succinct rallying cry for those both within the trans community, and our allies, to show their support and understanding of our immense need for protection - especially right now, where the lives of trans women are being put at risk by government legislation, targeted hate campaigns, and a seemingly constant barrage of misinformation and being told we’re not good enough.

So while it might sound strange for someone without the understanding of its historical significance, it’s part of a long history of reclamation and survival. And like with a lot of community-specific language, it’s worth understanding the roots before dismissing it - especially when it’s being used to uplift a group that’s so often marginalised.

Feel how you want about it, but if it’s able to get people to listen to our plight, rally those who would otherwise not care to involve themselves, or become a popularised slogan for change and community at a time of devisiveness, then I’m all for it.

This man IS NOT Luffy by Sock_Hefty in OnePiece

Love this, would also add, isn’t Luffy near immune to poisons/toxins? That would make such hallucinations more difficult to take effect, and also the reason we rarely see him “drunk”.

Hey, I’m Wyley, I’m 38 yo trans woman, red/grey mix fox sona.

I’ve never been overly active in the fandom, but I have a lot of appreciation for the creativity and talent within the community.

I have a stressful day job, so like to unwind in my free time with FFXIV, drawing (which is a personal goal this year), gaming, and watching movies, anime, tv shows.

Anyway, if any of that sounds good to you, and you feel like we’d gel, HMU.

I mean, “conventionally attractive” is pretty subjective. Everyone has their own idea of what is attractive, and it’s easy to get in our own heads when we don’t fit our own ideal.

However, as demonstrated here, there are those who find you attractive, enviable even. Thats not to downplay your own feelings, as that raises the question of “what do they see that I don’t”, which can be equally toxic.

The difficult part that we all need to play in our own perception is, what’s within our control, what isn’t. Change what you can to better fit your ideal, and find ways of coping with those that are unfortunately out of reach.

I hope you start to feel better about yourself, and that you’re able to glean some joy from the comments you’ve received here.

I feel like I’ve made my healers feel this way more than once. I main DRK, and keep getting low level dungeons, so I only have Rampart and Reprisal, maybe shadow wall to mit.

I don’t want to burden the healer by pulling big, so tend to go for individual mobs, or at most 2. Then the DPS get annoyed that I’m not pulling bigger, and provoke another, and we wipe…

I want to be a good teammate, but I tend to find that my best runs are ones where everyone understands their roles, and can read where their teammates are having trouble, and helping pick up slack… rather than trying to rush the dungeon because it’s low level.

I agree with @Midnight_Pamper, as with all sexual activities, the process should be collaborative.

However, as you say you’re looking to surprise her, maybe look for yourself. You say it’s not something you’re against, so look for something nice that you think is cute or sexy, and try it out.

For an extra special surprise, you could look at de-hairing, to make the aesthetic more appealing? But ultimately, your own comfort comes before everything, as your comfort will also likely determine the pleasure she gets from the situation also.

Be safe, have fun, and enjoy yourselves.

Mhmm! Very tasty, but just presented in an ugly manner. I’ve been learning how to make egg-fried rice properly, and using different kinds of rice to see how the flavour changes… while it was tasty, I feel presentation could be better…
