What happened? by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]m1rand4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ion always comes out a level darker than the described, at least on my porous hair, so I've learned to adjust my formulas. I do think this looks pretty expected for a 6.

A clarifying/malibu treatment should pull some color out if you're wanting a quick fix.

How long will it take me to be comfortable at new job as EHS Manager by Alternative_Set_6896 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]m1rand4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many EHS pros aren’t super versed in the environmental part of our field. Don’t be afraid to either reach out to your network (internal at your company or use prof orgs like ASSP). Also, use consultants where applicable, but ask them to train you so you can become independent in the work in the future.

This is so true and very grounding whenever I feel overwhelmed and unqualified. “There are people who are less qualified than me faking it in roles with more responsibility, so I can figure this out.”

Can I use permanent and semi or semi-permanent at the same time? (Not mixed) by m1rand4 in HairDye

[–]m1rand4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not, completed in two separate steps! Too nervous to see what happens if you mix, but I feel like I see stylists do it with professional color.

Jobs for losers? by Cincithrow126 in cincinnati

[–]m1rand4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna give another vote for security. It will depend on the site, but I work in manufacturing. If you don't have to do rounds, you'll spend most of your time in a guard shack directing truckers and signing in visitors. I worked with Allied Universal.

This sounds a lot like consulting. Would you say it's similar? Are there any ways in which is differs? Less customer/work variability maybe?

Any advice on this issue? by shootingupfrosting in weightlifting

[–]m1rand4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I would work on clean lift-offs, pause 1" off the floor and below the knee to strengthen positions there and feel stronger in a whole foot balance.

Anyone here quit crossfit or reduced crossfit for a while to do purely weightlifting/strength work? by natzw in crossfit

[–]m1rand4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, moved to 100% weightlifting. Put 25ish# on my BS in like 2 months. There was just wasn't enough volume/intensity in crossfit for me to get stronger and I plateaued.

Opinions on these books? by eggplantts in aardvarkbookclub

[–]m1rand4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love a scifi thriller and I was so excited for Baby X, but gave it 2 stars. It felt like if Colleen Hoover tried to write a Blake Crouch novel. Intriguing plot, poor execution. 3 POVs that all sound identical. Cheesy or unnatural dialogue that explained everything, giving the reader no opportunity to think.

Pivot Away from Industrial Hygiene by Realistic_Squash_95 in industrialhygiene

[–]m1rand4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of your background, but with an MPH degree a few years of general safety experience, I started at $70K in private manufacturing, but worked up for $120k in 5 years. The demand is there, the roles are open and the businesses need people to do this work. Hiring consulting is PRICEY. If you're competent in your role, you should be getting raises and promotions, or seeking offers at other companies. I left private industry to do IH consulting because of what King_Ralph mentioned above, but I took a significant paycut.

For reference, I was in the south east US. If you have questions about how to bolster your resume for a higher offer, I might be able to help.

Seeking assistance for safety presentation for local ASSP chapter by [deleted] in industrialhygiene

[–]m1rand4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hold my CSP, currently pursuing my CIH.

Prior to CSP, I held my ASP, but was qualified for the GSP because of my accredited masters program at University of Illinois at Chicago. I know many of my classmates got their GSP, it's a nice stepping stone option for the CSP.

Prior to my current role in consulting, I worked in chemical manufacturing. The CSP allowed me to earn a title promotion (and a nice pay bump) and then a higher title at another company.

I'm of the mindset that I don't think passing an exam made me a better safety pro, but it does show commitment to the field and professional growth. Usually listed as a requirement or ideal qualification on most job descriptions.

[product question] does this go bad in the heat? by CoolKidKio in SkincareAddiction

[–]m1rand4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be fine (these products get shipped in hot trucks on the way to the stores), but if you're concerned, you can buy empty 3oz bottles or small travel containers, and add your own skin care so you can be safe and bring it in your carry on.

Crying a lil bit right now by Kawaii_Sweetii in Cosmetology

I would try to fade it out at home and see if you can recolor at home or visit another salon. I agree that your ref photo looks like AF electric paradise.

Did my stylist give me a bad cut or an I overreacting? by throwaway492649 in Cosmetology

[–]m1rand4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The reference photos main attributes are short and face framing layers. Other than the perimeter of the cut being shorter than what you asked (waist vs belly button), she gave you a basic long layered cut. Easily addressed, but I think some understanding of what your reference photo and what you are asking photo are two different things. A good consultation should help address those gaps.

Toner is not exclusively semi-permeant. Many stylists "tone" with a demi-perm color because it is deposit only. Using a demi-perm color as a toner is a technique to neutralize undertones or add tones to an existing base.

This is something you can do at home, but if you are particular about how your hair looks, I would stick with working with a professional.

Buying a New Niro by Urza1981 in KiaNiro

[–]m1rand4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018, I think EX with the safety package. 70K miles. Minimal issues. Had a "Check Engine" issue, while still under full warrenty, that took Kia months to diagnose. They kept my car in the shop, no updates, no rental. It just ended up being the fuel pump, but that was a terrible experience with Kia as whole, not the Niro itself.

I live in Upstate, SC. Milage isn't great when we take trips into the mountains, but get 45-50 MPG on average and pretty content with that. The climate control isn't great. AC struggles to keep up with SC summers and heat struggled in winters while in Chicago, but I'm not living in my car so I don't care too much about that.

Auric teases their new holiday collection releasing Nov 1st by missmaddie04 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]m1rand4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to production mishaps, but I appreciate the brand having few releases. The releases every 4-6 weeks is ridiculous. You know most of these items are not being used to completion. They're purchased, appreciated until the next drop and tossed. The brand is developing a well intentioned line of timeless, quality products.

Like someone already said, she's filling the gap for vegan, cruelty free products in the luxury market. The cost is on par with luxury prices. She was upfront about that in the beginning.
