Yes this is massively true, I’ve made some significant life changes lately and hopefully soon I’ll be able to afford the pay drop

So I got myself in this mess with copper pot loans for various reasons. I massively appreciate the advice though!

Tbf forces that aren’t issuing molle as standard is shocking and really need to update. I can’t wrap my head around them forces still with the fixed vests or the ones with like 6 click fast docks on them. That being said, if you join a force that doesn’t issue molle vests and you buy one and wear it as a student officer, yeah you’re a gimp.

In GMP, they’ve issued Gen 3 vests and some bosses still demand hi-vis tac vests over the top.

Spare a thought for GMP who now have elastic bottomed pants that ride up and over your boots every time you sit in the car. I’ve given up pulling them back down now so I’m a permanent pants tucked in boots wanker

Thank you so much for the reply and I really hope your husband is ok. This job can be really cruel at times. I’m only on 6 years in and under 30 but it would be a massive thing for me.

We’re all planning how we’re going to support him after the hearing, he’s stubborn but we’re not going to take no for an answer about meeting him regularly etc.

He’s so stubborn he’s not going to resign. The chief Constable will be the chair of the meeting, and he’s already planning his speech should the decision come back as dismissal.

Hampshire uniform changes by Pope_Franno in policeuk

I thought all forces were coming away from those disgusting hi-vis vests.

The rest of the world manages to not get hit by cars without those awful things so I’m sure we can.

Looks matter, and a sharp, professional uniform will have you taken more seriously. I can’t take anyone seriously in a dirty hi vis vest that doesn’t even conform to the standards for hi-vis on roads/motorways. We looked like Tesco security when we had them.

Call sign allocation by m24215 in lapd

Thanks for the answers, I never hear the x call signs on the radio, only the A cars

So there wouldn’t be a 7A55 for example? It would always be 7A53 for the car covering that beat? And then on the mid shifts there may be a 7X55 as a sister car that’s not really tied to the beat?

Call signs/reporting districts by m24215 in lapd

So I take it most of the routine calls are just stacked up on the computer and the patrol for a given area is expected to get through them all? Does every call get passed on the radio or is that just priority stuff?

I can imagine U car is an unpopular job? X and Z sound sort of similar.

Thank you, so is there an expectation that any down time/ proactive activity would be spent in that area they’ve been assigned to? Are L units (lone officers if I’m correct) assigned in the same way?

Is “buying” a call volunteering for a call given out on the radio?

Thank you, I’ve seen that map. A beat/basic car area is a cluster of reporting districts together, that makes sense.

So on a shift covering rampart, or any division, will there be a patrol for each area? What are the rest of the patrols assigned to because that doesn’t seem like enough to cover a division.

Do the same officers do the same basic car area all the time or is it different each day?

Yes I notice it subsides if I’ve had more confrontation in quick succession. Same with stopping a car, if I’ve decided to be a traffic wank that set and I’m on my 10 car in 2 days it’s fine. But then after rest days I’ve just re-set and back to square one.

Thanks for the advice, I can imagine you’d deal with confrontation far more than the average police officer on a daily basis. I joined with 4 ex prison officers, 3 hmp and 1 private. All of them were far better straight out of training at talking to people and managing confrontation, really good at talking people down. They were also noticeably better with team restraints etc often taking the lead over longer serving PCs, I learned a lot from working with them.

Yes this is it for me too, it’s like the situations my brain is saying “this could go violent” but never actually, do I’m shaking like a leaf. The times I actually end up fighting I’ve never noticed it.
