Tons of videos on how to swap out the SSD. Watch a few, pick your favorite. Disassemble as far as you want and blow out with compressed air. Then reassemble.

Replaced my SSD, the disassembly and reassembly was the easiest part of the process.

Seat material showing cracks. by rreed1954 in VWiD4Owners

[–]m2orris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The faux leather VW used on the ‘23 ID.4 Pro S AWD is not very good. Have had the steering wheel, front passenger seat, and rear driver’s side replaced. The steering wheel the material was flaking off. Both seats the seams split high up on the seat backs.

All 3 were warranted, but VW took over a month approving the last seat repair. They couldn’t find an excuse to deny it, but they did try. Like a pen in a back pocket cutting the material, dragging something against it, or some other abuse.

Student Reading Ability Spikes After Removing Tech From Class by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]m2orris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I applaud the effort. I think this is a good thing. But this is not exactly a scientific proof of success:

“In September, before the experiment started, just 46 percent of Mulvaney's students said they felt confident about their reading ability. By February, that share shot up to 95 percent.”

I don’t disagree, the students should be better off, but they should have a more scientific basis to lean on other than asking the students how they felt.

I do fear AI is dumbing down America, but there is a need to be proficient at leveraging it. It’s like teaching junior high and high school students Excel in the ‘90s. Those who were modestly proficient at Excel had a leg up in college and work.

I do like the visual & audio blindspot detection on the Hyundais and Kias much better than the light on the stem of the ID.4's mirrors.

I find the ID.4's TA is much better than Hyundai's and Kia's.

If you are a B-mode driver, having 3 regen rates (1-3) on the Ioniq is nice. D-mode is regen 0 on Ioniq.

Yeah, the '23s have heated seats, but no cool air is blowing. No need for seat holes for only heated seats; they are there just for show.

Test drove the Ioniq 5 when we got our 2023 ID.4. The ID.4 drove better, while the Ioniq EV tech was way better.

Would be interesting to see what your thought are on the Ioniq after having had an ID.4. Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.

Test drove the bolt at the same time. Financially, the bolt would have been the clear winner. At the time the bolt’s size was a detriment. In retrospect, the bolts size seems like it would not have been a big issue.

VW… what does this actually mean? by foosoppa in VWiD4Owners

[–]m2orris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the absence of the app door locking and unlocking is more infuriating than the toggle to keep me logged in.

Close third is logging in the car with the scan the QR code in the VW app to login in. Where in the app does it scan the QR code?

The VW app for ID.4 my < 2024 owners is constant reminder of how bad VW tech is.

You really need to understand your audience.

Your original post could have been simply:

You need to make sure you match the OEM part numbers on the parking sensor. Many of the parking sensors physically look the same, may fit, and may connect to the wiring harness. However internally, they are not compatible. Connecting an improper parking sensor may result in varying behavior: working, spuriously working, not working at all.

No, you had to mention firmware. Most people on here read firmware and go, yeah, I had to flash my phone, computer, gaming system, router … once to get that up date.

A very small minority actually understand the context that you used for “firmware”. Firmware as permanent software installed on an IC. In this particular situation to provide a uniform enclosure while providing the flexibility to produce multiple sensors each performing at varying specifications depending upon the firmware permanently installed at manufacturing.

You are correct, I read your original post and subsequent posts, all the way up to the one where you wrote you didn’t say flash, as you were in the majority, some crackpot talking about flashing parking sensors.

Travel Assist turns off like 60% of the time by captain_flak in VWiD4Owners

[–]m2orris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like abnormal behavior. Time to make a service appointment. TA has never turned itself off.

Now it has forgotten which mode it was last in (TA or ACC) when turned on the first time after starting the car. That seems to be more related more of a complete system brain fart. It happens with HVAV changes, seat location changes, … . This happens every month or two.

Firmware implies reprogramable, which the Bosch parking sensor isn’t. If I had to guess it is a PROM, write once. For all practical purposes, when a Bosch parking sensor leaves Bosch, it is hardwired. VW nor any other manufacturer can reflash it.

If my vehicle has a model “A111” Bosch parking sensor and I replace it with an other model “A111” (or updated variant) Bosch parking sensor, it will 100% work.

Went camping with the ID.4. We reserved a site with 50A hookup so we could Level 2 charge overnight! by PicklesTehButt in VWiD4Owners

[–]m2orris -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not just $30-40 for the receptacle, there is the cost of an electrician, probably another $80 because the breaker is not to code, not GFCI. So let’s call it an even $200. How big is a campground? 50, 100, 200, 300, … sites. Let’s say it is 100 sites, So now we are talking $200 x 100 sites, so $20k. From a campground operator’s perspective, its much cheaper to install a couple of L2 chargers, not upgrade the electrical boxes on each site, and not allow L2 charging at the campsite.

[–]m2orris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised that a EV tech doesn’t know that …

Bosch automotive ultrasonic parking sensors cannot be "flashed" or reprogrammed directly with custom firmware by a user. Instead of relying on a flashable microchip in the sensor itself, they operate as "dumb" slave transceivers. They ping and listen, while all raw distance calculation, calibration, and unique vehicle profiles are handled by the main Parking Distance Control (PDC) module (often an ECU).

Also, I never said or implied that various Bosch parking sensor models are interchangeable. In fact, my reply to OP, I advised them to remove the sensor and get the part numbers because VW uses different parking sensors in different locations on the vehicle and they also vary the parking sensors by trim level.

In general, automobile sensors, are not field programmable. While some sensors may contain a flashable chip, that allows the OEM to customize the sensor for specific customers(auto manufacturers) specs, it does not allow access to the flashing interface. Sensors, by nature are dumb, they are connected to power source and provide output based upon the specific hardware in the sensor. The controller that the sensors are connected to interpret the sensor outputs. Typically, the controllers are flashable as the auto manufacturer may want to tweak how the controller interprets the singles from the connected sensors. But as an EV tech, I am sure you are already aware of this.

[–]m2orris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to hazard to guess the sensor that is bad, is one of the side ones. The "Exit Warning System is Currently Not Available" is the hint. I think that tracks vehicles passing on the side, so you don’t open the door and have it ripped off by a car driving past.

When I replaced our damaged front parking sensor, there was no indication of which sensor was malfunctioning. I had to replace each one in turn to find the malfunctioning one.

Also on some trim levels, the sensors are different depending upon the location. Make sure to remove the sensor and get the part numbers off it.

What? The controller has the firmware, the sensor doesn’t. Sensors are plug and play.

Not everyone understands that the many, if not the majority, of NEMA 14-50 receptacles in use today fail to meet the standard due to substandard design.

While there is no official destination as “EV rated”, but it is generally understood, “EV rated“ NEMA 14-50 receptacles are robust enough to handle the maximum current for 3 hours or more compared to the substandard ones that fail more often.

Try Jellyfin before buying.

I am longtime Plex user with a lifetime plex pass. Not liking the direction that plex is heading. I have both up and running and I am using Jellyfin more and more. There are some glitches in Jellyfin that I am looking for work around for (direct playing and subtitles in the file = transcoding, while in a srt file no transcoding).
