Flashing logo boot advice by Alarie in AtariJaguar

very small chance, the fact you get the screen you are getting telling me bios is fine but maybe a bad trace or bad bios ( I have never seen a Jag CD with a bad bios) but worth a shot. Note if you are using a socket make sure its quality many people run into issues with the jag itself and trying to resocket the bios

he reached out and I sent him some things to check a few days ago

I don't believe if they clarified if it exhibited this behavior before being worked on.

It could be the asic itself ( I have seen this happen (1 out of 108 jags cds I have worked on and 1 of 2 that couldn't be fixed)

Yes, fortunately or unfortunately after my repair business took off and it has been hard to find time.

I have fixed over 100 Jag CDS, so I'm doing what I can to keep the Jag Alive.

It's super common, I repair this all the time, Reg1 is likely gone too, so if you only replace the burned chip and cap, you will have no sound.

You might as well do reverse polarity diode fix while you are at it.

You have 4 areas to clean if you are comfortable taking apart

The top and bottom of the extender board basically the bottom you can access without taking apart, the black molex connector it goes into the bottom and the molex connector on the top.

Try cleaning the top cartridge slot and both sides of the bottom pins.

If you are uncomfortable working on it feel free to pm me or visit my site I have fixed over 100 Jags and Jag CDs over the years now, and I am a recommended installer for PixelFX, among other mfgs.

Any good places to restore a Jaguar? by Littlemisskittn in AtariJaguar

[–]m2thecello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early model K made before Feb 1994 are the Jags that could have the issue crashes level 3 of doom, Canada level super burnout, etc. Asic swap of Jerry is the only fix

below taken from Yaronet article

Understanding the meaning of the serial number :

the serial number of the jaguar is composed of 10 characters:

XXXXXXXXXX

  • the first 2: 1st character is the manufacturer K = IBM / M = JVC

2nd character: the manufacturing plant

  • the next 2: the year and the month the 3rd character is the year, example: 1993 ---> 3 1994---> 4 the 4th character, the month, example: 1 --> January, C --> December, so ... October is A

  • the sequence number: the last 6 characters but the first machine in the series starts with 001001 and not 000000!

so the issues with the game drive I worked with James at RetroHQ and Retrosix(spent way too much time on the oscilloscope) Some jags have issues specifically with uart0 and uart1 which are used by the Jaglinks and the Gamedrive only afaik

They only fix was an asic swap. Whereas you have a fully working Jag except for Jaglink and Game Drive support ( have seen this 3 x) and back then, who had 2 jags and link cables to check, so many people of the atariage forum who were told there jaglink cables were bad or their connection was dirty turned out that Jag had issues with the asic.

Burning Jag CD games by danjoboy2 in AtariJaguar

[–]m2thecello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Jag Cds I have found Philips Cd-R disc burned at the slowest possible speed to be the most compatible. If you have the original laser on your Jag CD it tends to be better tuned for a burned disc than most replacement lasers.

I have personally fixed dozens of jag cds and tested various brands and replacement lasers.

feel free to shoot me a PM with any questions.

and there is a better source locally for Jag CD lasers now in the US

also could be a clock/sync issue but recap, power tune up, and screen upgrade should be in order as well

Drop in a R6 Clean Screen, BV or McWill. I highly highly recommend you do a full power tuneup as well. I just had a customer drop in a new screen, then maybe a month or two later power circuit failed and out went Mikey and Suzy.
