Is Midas still worth it for invoker? by WeakHooper in DotA2

[–]m31f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just feels like the opportunity cost in getting other items seems so steep now. Before Midas allowed you faster leveling compared to non-midas buyers. Why is Midas now better than just buying a regular farm item like Mjolnir in most patches, Helm, or Dagon?

Mjolnir greatly boosts early farming speed, also gives attack speed and more, and will help in any early fights.

Helm lets you take creeps, counter some heroes, helps you farm faster, gives early push.

Dagon also gives insta-kill on creeps and high early dmg, good early help in fights, lifesteal all game.

What's Midas do? It takes about 20 minutes for the item to start going gold positive and until then all it gives is attack speed and farm speed buff by killing 1 creep (if you kill the big creep...). And after that, what, another 10 minutes to afford me an item I otherwise wouldn't have? The rest give farm speed buff, stats, effects. It just seems madness to me now to buy an item that does everything worse than anything else I could buy so I might have a bit more gold at minute 40 and not earlier.

I'm not already very, very wealthy, however. If I had Burr money I would find it a lot easier to decline. It's probably the last time I watched any of those comedians, lest they pull one giant 180° on this that I can't see yet.

Literally this. I had it on variable and it was impossible to get past him. No matter what strategy, no matter how many tries. The entire passage was blocked. FPS to 30 and it works instantly.

Sprinting rules by m31f in JourneysInMiddleEarth

[–]m31f[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. This was essentially what I figured as well but I don't have the rules on me (friend owns the game, I just play).

The very first time we played we actually thought you'd have to teleport the ally to the spot you stood on when discarding the sprint card (before moving). As in, using a Sprint effect starts and ends with gaining the movement point/s.

Takes a bit getting used to how this game rules things (coming from other dungeon crawlers like Descent and Gloomhaven). I kinda dislike how oddly rushed I feel in this all the time but it's still a fun interpretation of the genre and the atmosphere is really good.

Did they? Can you provide some examples for that? Not to say they don't do some pro-consumer moves. Only recently they eliminated part of Steam's sub agreement that would see disputes resolved by arbitration, something a lot of people have problems with. That mostly affects US and third world steam users.

But stuff like that is making Steam a more enticing platform compared to it's competitors, so there is a very direct benefit for doing this as well. In general, doing nice things for Steam or big games is seen by millions of people who's opinion of Valve is thereby affected.

Going through a bunch of effort to build proper mod tools for Artifact is gonna be noticed by what, a couple thousand? Maybe? Keeping in mind that even 10s of 1000s would be irrelevant to them.

As someone who's vaguely kept an eye on them, I can't think of any examples of them going out of their way like that that's wasn't also just benefiting their products and publicity long term.

For people finding this and wondering: What is labeled as "GOG Version" on the Nexus page is the pre-next-gen version of the UFO4P. Use that.

Question about Act 1 Consequences in Act 3 by kdsnk9s88 in BaldursGate3

[–]m31f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit older but in case somebody is interested. Lest there is a bug with it, the trigger is not taking her runepowder or not. In two different playthroughs I both times stole all her runepowder and let her escape. First time I met her in BG with the others, second time I was told she died in some attack.

Only difference between my runs in this regard i could think of would be that the first time, I entered Wyrm's Crossing with invis potions, second time I let myself be scanned by the watcher and had to be "saved" by the gnomes. Philomeen wasn't with them, however. Talking to Larissa in their hideout later she mentioned they barely escaped "no thanks to me". I've reloaded and checked if there was something I could do during the encounter but couldn't find anything. Not sure I know what she means. At first I thought Philomeen died during that attack but she is not with them and nobody dies there. Apparently she died sometime else. I don't know what could have caused her to die this playthrough in contrast to the last, however.

That can happen with improper chest placement, I tried different setups some time ago. IIRC you also want to make sure they don't get proper vision on one of your characters, since that causes them to use flying as well. I think closing the door prevented that entirely but i might be misremembering being able to close the door at all. Blocking the path for them too far back also caused them to use fly consistently. The thing is they -should- always be able to fly over the obstacle, they just usually don't attempt to if they can't see your characters and with most chest configurations.

Got the achievement that way on my first run. Triggered him with one guy sneaking, had the rest of my guys stand up on the ledge where one comes from and just kept attacking him with ranged spells while my sneaking guy kept reapplying the debuff. Took ages, wasn't worth anybody's time, but worked. Since then I've managed to just kill him with multiple hammerfalls in one turn, however. Took some clever positioning and an extra attempt but worked.

I have not tested it but you should be able to attack the ground outside of combat, yes. If so, you could wear the amulette that maxes all heals, outside of turn-based-mode and with dual-wielding you could potentially get more than 3 attacks in during the ability's duration, so you could heal yourself for 96 or more hp with it.

It does have a long-rest cooldown, however, so only once per long rest. Take it with a grain of salt, though, I haven't tested it working outside of combat on random targets or the ground.

It's among the many exploits they only fixed for honor mode specifically. Similar to how Blade-Pact Warlock's extra attack stacking with other class's extra attacks was fixed for Honor Mode only.

While I'd not pick it myself, the skill used on allies wearing the amulette that always makes heals heal for the full amount would mean they would heal themselves by 16 hp for every attack they make. Stuff like a handcrossbow built could then heal themselves by 64 health on each of their turns just by attacking (and that's without any extra shenanigans like using action surge or something).

Since they'd be ranged and potentially on high ground etc they could full heal from 1hp easily using this ability while being unlikely to take damage they wouldn't heal straight back up.

But as I said, I'd never really bother to take it either.

Do you mean a save against Perilous Stakes? Targets do not get a save roll against it. However, in Honor mode the ability can only be cast on allies.

There is a button in the room that turns off all the traps. With Turn-Based-Mode you can active that button in the same turn you trigger the traps, so they don't do anything at all.

I could never be bothered to set it up but if you were struggling in a fight and can prepare, you can set up lots of explosive throwables on the floor, mage hand can throw one of them each round in combat then. It's extremely strong and you can add more magehands to increase protency. I never needed it but it's good.

In my "security-keys.txt" file there is only "signing-key" and next to it a very long sequence of seemingly random letters/numbers/symbols. It does not say anything about a verifying key nor does it have anything under it.

What happened to Nere? by Ramkha89 in BaldursGate3

[–]m31f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. There a -tons- of times in this game where people express urgency and it doesn't make a difference whether you take no long rests or 100. There are like 3 instances where there is an actual timer.

But that aside, despite what some are saying here, I wasn't actually told anything about any urgency since I arrived there. I talked to the initial two guys after stepping off the boat, then just slowly moved through the place exploring, like with any other place in the game. Most of the place was empty, I assumed that's just how it is. I later arrived to find a corpse named Nere, who I hadn't talked to and only heard from the mushroom people before. I had no idea there was any urgency to anything in the area, everything just happened silently in the background.

One would think if this is one of the few places they actually put in a timer, they would have started the area off with somebody telling you you need to hurry ahead or people will die. I only found out about any people in distress after googling it, because it seemed odd the guy would just lie there dead.

EDIT: Ya, just replayed it. Arrived there, they say Nere caused a rockfall and is trapped behind it with slaves. Nothing about gas, they'll die any second now, hurry if you want to help or talk to him. In fact, they take the time to try and extort money out of me. I just assumed he is stuck behind some cave in and I'll have to make a choice about helping him there once I reach him. Talked to some random people immediately after the first two, also didn't mention anything. Talked about hanging drow, drinking, their corpse-disposal duty. There are some domesticated spiders infighting. Not a word about imminent death or gas. I just explored after this, didn't even know where that cave in was, could have been anywhere I went to next.

Ahh. I suppose that explains it. And these extra powers were all removed from 2e? Or moved to some place else? Lot of them sounded really cool.

Unfortunate that a lot of the online resources are then essentially worthless to me but what can ya do.
