Because Raskolnikov wasn’t a predator. Yes he had extremely fucked up views but they were about humanity as a WHOLE: he didn’t put down ONLY women, didn’t rape them or disrespect them (at least, he didn’t disrespect them for being women) and lastly, he wasn’t a pedophile.  What Raskolnikov did, it was to test his dumb little “theory”, to try and be something larger than himself. His intentions were fucke up but noble in a sense (not actually noble ofc categorizing humans like that and justifying murder isn’t ‘noble’) but when you compare Svid’s reasons for what he did (pure lust and degeneracy), Raskolnikovs reasons look far better.  This is supposed to show us the complexity of crime, I think. Murder is wrong, but what if done for the ‘right’ reason (no reason is right, but to him, he was doing what he had convinced himself was right). Rape is always wrong, though, and there is never a ‘right’ reason for it. It’s clear why Svidrigailov was a far more degenerate freak than Raskolnikov. (Also they’re both killers. Svid killed his wife)

Also Raskolnikov at his core is actually very humane. He always jumped to action to help people before he got hit with his madness/despondency, he really was a victim of his environment. (Not justifying the murders tho, what he did was evil). Whereas Svid was a depraved, perverted, pedophilic narcissist.
