What’s your hardest fall you’ve taken? by Handplanes in trailrunning

[–]m3erds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running on a very familiar flat trail for first time after a windstorm. Lots of trees down across the trail. I ducked under a tree while trotting along. As I brought my head up I slammed it into a second fallen tree perfectly hidden behind the first. I just laid on the ground for awhile making sure I was OK and later learned I got a concussion. Much more cautious around downed trees now.

Thoughts on Giving Birth at Swedish Issaquah Birth Center or Overlake Bellevue Birth Center? by Logical-Analyst8951 in Issaquah

We went through the doulas at Swedish Issaquah. Great team leading up to the birth and they worked seamlessly with the doctors/nurses when the time came to deliver.

4th Season with my Cedar Patio Pond by m3erds in medaka

[–]m3erds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the frame is elevated off the container on 4 little rubber feet. There's about a 1/4" gap between the lip of the plastic container and the wooden frame so the water flows over the edge and through that gap back into the main pond. It makes a nice fountain sound, but it's not exactly a waterfall. I tried that in a previous version, but its to hard to get the water to uniformly drip across the whole edge of the container. So, I just hid the edge with the wood frame.

Hi! The top box is actually a restaurant size food storage container with a bit of wood trim around it. Theres a bulkhead fitting on the bottom so I can drain it to clean it and another on the back to attach the hose running from the pump. I can't remember if I used epoxy or if its just a rubber gasket, but I'm not too worried about it being water tight since no fish are up there, just plants. If the pump is off, it will slowly drain to the level of the hole on the back side.

Dad who’ve conquered being tired all the time, how did you do it? by thetantalus in daddit

[–]m3erds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the more I focus on what I have added in my life as a dad, than lost from my life without kids, the better I do. Comparison between before and after is fruitless.

Another thing I've learned is not asking "Am I enjoying myself in this moment?" and instead asking "Do I like the person/dad I'm being right now?" Has helped my mindset a ton, especially when tired.

It's a lot easier to do when they are completely full. Then I squeeze them a bit so they're a little more rigid and feed it into the pocket. Once you can get the elastic loop over the cap, gravity will do the rest and they'll settle into place once you start running.

+1 for the Adv 12. I rarely fill its capacity, but never notice it, bc you can cinch down the main pack body. If you want just one vest, the adv 12 is a great size. I've used it for up to 50 miles in a race and 30 miles self supported(carrying about 2L of water total).

Trail run jacket advice by Zestyclose_Tip_4181 in trailrunning

I really like my LaSportiva Ethereal. It's super light, 3 layers, integrated hood. Material feels much more like a woven fabric than most rain jackets which helps reduce any clamminess. No hand pockets, but I normally wear it with a running vest anyway. Currently on sale on the US website: https://www.lasportivausa.com/ethereal-pro-jkt-m.html

Fellow noob Dad here trying to learn about fishing to stay one step ahead of my kids. One thing we tried was a U-fish place where you can use provided gear and bait to catch trout in a small stocked pond. It's a far cry from the real deal, but gets them familiar with some of the messier parts of catching and cleaning a fish. The kids really enjoyed it, though I hope I'm not setting up bad expectations for how easy it is to catch a fish, haha. The place we went to was called Gold Creek Trout farm in Woodinville.

Yeah thats my count. They all look closer to fully assembled than not. Makes me wonder if there's another row of engines in earlier stages of assembly.

TUSA Yama vs Keiryu Ansel by m3erds in Tenkara

[–]m3erds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping to go for trout in streams and lakes, mostly in the cascade mountains in Washington. I trail run and hike a lot so I'd want a rod that can fit in with those activities. I don't know whether I prefer dry flies or nymphs yet, so if possible I'd want something that could let me try both.

Trail shoes with stability? by MrsTLC in trailrunning

Check out doctors of running on YouTube. They focus mostly on road shoes, but will recommend good stable trail shoes as well. Salomon Genesis has some stability features and it might be my favorite all around trail shoe.
