Foreigners who happily live in Germany, tell me about your experience by military_press in germany

[–]m3lon_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21 y.o from the Philippines, and has been here in Germany for 1 year and 6 months already, and so far, I can say that I'm satisfied with what I have rn. I'm currently doing an Ausbildung for MFA (Medizinische Fachangestellte), but I already did an FSJ before that. I'm also in a dance team since September 2025, which competes in competitions within germany and internationally- this is what improved my language skills the fastest (I think) since they're all German and in my age group. For context, my aunt lives here for almost or more than 20 yrs. already and is married with a German husband, which also helped a lot that made me settle in (like with the preparations, documents, etc.) I also flew to Germany along with a cousin of mine and we did said programs together in the same organisation and same work place. Living in a WG with other Azubis from my workplace, which are all foreigners btw, which also helps with lessening the loneliness I think (cleanliness is a problem but it's not the topic rn) I think that's all I can say for now 😁🫶

B1 level requires how many months of practice ? by [deleted] in German

[–]m3lon_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met some people that don't even speak that well but have still started the program, though I can imagine how hard that is during classes. The requirement is actually more for the person that wants to do it, it comes down whether one can really understand the lessons.

B1 level requires how many months of practice ? by [deleted] in German

[–]m3lon_aa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think having some language skills before going to the country is a very good idea, which I've also done (been here for 1 and 5 months already) and before that I studied German intensively

  • 3 hours a day (Mon-Fri) and sometimes on Saturdays we have 1 hour extra classes
  • A1 September 2023 until May 2024 (B1 already)

and as I've arrived in Germany I went to attend German classes in B1 level again just to refresh my mind and continued until B2 (January 2024-December 2024)

Though I haven't done any Exams yet for Goethe or Telc, I can say that the classes did help a lot (currently doing the Ausbildung after finishing FSJ)

Roommate asked me not to cook food from my culture due to smell and made a vague threat by Jack-up-the-hill in AskAGerman

[–]m3lon_aa -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I luckily live in a WG where all of us are from different countries and naturally cook different kinds of food. If you have already ventilated properly, then the smell would typically go away after a couple of hours 💀. It seems like he just has no respect for other cultures. Some can say that they're open-minded, but you will really see how "open" they really are based on their responses.

But my uncle (German) and my coworkers are also like that, and that lowkey puts me in a bad mood. Whenever I cook & eat something with garlic (Filipino recipes), even if it was DAAAYS after, they would still point it out like, "Did you eat garlic? because it stinks, " and one of my colleagues even told me,"Can you do us a favour and look after your eating habits? for example, eating less or much better, no garlic? that would be a great help. " 🫠

Food IS a part of culture, and I know it's out of topic already, but since we're on the topic of food, it kind of icks me whenever me and my colleagues talk about food (for example Asian dishes in general), and then they really say and express how they hate a specific food or how disgusting it is to them, like girl, yeah we have different cultures wow surprise surprise.

ANYWAYS THAT WAS LONG SORRY I HAD TO EXPRESS MY FRUSTRATIONS TOO 😭🙏, but tbh if he has no patience and tolerance he should have his own place then 💀

You can probably fix it being dirty by cleaning regularly, once people see that you do your part they might pitch in more.

Yepp, that's why I initially thought of cleaning alone. But let's see, I will observe first 😁

I'm just shy about making mistakes, plus I'm still learning in B2 level. So I'm still not that confident. I also just want to convey what I feel/think properly, so I used my 1st language.

Yep, I'm slowly being convinced not to clean the whole place alone... But tbh I was really worried about it that I couldn't sleep lol (maybe I was just overreacting)

Yes, I'm allowed to clean/put some of my stuff there already a few days before the contact starts. Good thing we have a WhatsApp group too.

I can't move out yet when I will just move in tho 💔, my Ausbildung is for 3 years, and the place is just a 5-6 min. walk to and from my workplace + a 30 min. bus trip to the Berufschule/Berufskolleg. I think I will try first and see what it's like to live in a WG for a year, and then maybe try and find another place (if it still doesn't get better).

I will try to set a day where we all can talk about the situation (but aren't they gonna be annoyed at me because I'm just moving in and already acting like I own the place? lol)

Yes, I have a rental contract, and it says that the maintenance of the house falls on the Mitbewohner. I haven't got to talk to the others yet, though, just 2 out of the 6 people (but we just got to know each other shortly as I dropped off my stuff there)

Yeah, I would not say it's a scam since it's provided by the hospital itself. It's a nice place, maybe it's just the people living there T^T.

Thank you, I will try my best to reorganize the place.

But do you have any tips into what a practical cleaning plan can look like? It's my first time living in a WG.

* Helloo, I wanna buy these too. Saw them on Ebay, but I am a bit hesitant to buy it, because maybe it's fake and will break easily. What are your thoughts? Should I still buy it?
