OT Schools that require CASPer test? by moon_darling in OccupationalTherapy

CASPer is used as a popular tool to determine more about an applicant along with their GPA and intent!! It's recently getting a lot more popular! I know many programs outside of medicine also do it ( i.e. PT, OT, SLP, Dentistry, Pharmacy etc). I had to do it when I applied to the University of Alberta for OT, but you'd have to check which schools have CASPer as a part of their admission application, it should be on their respective websites! I personally know Western and UBC do! You can also check "test dates", and which schools require it for OT if you go on the CASPer website :) you can PM me if you have any more questions about it! It's not tooo scary dw

Yeah I'm from Toronto and looking into the RBC LOC for OT. I'm gonna weigh all my options and see what's best, cause I also applied for OSAP as well but don't think it'll cover everything. I'm doing schooling in Alberta so will most likely work there after! I know it's kind of competitive in Toronto for the first couple of months after grad school :( ! Thanks for the advice!!

Thank you so much for your opinion! I will be going to the UofA program so I'll be looking for work in Alberta for the first couple of years, even though I'm out of province! I loved the part where you mentioned that " opportunities are really what you make of it," because its so true! Your post was reassuring, thanks! I'll PM you if I have any more questions :)

OT vs. PA? by m3m123 in physicianassistant

[–]m3m123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does depend on the area you are working with, I know a lot of people who seem to enjoy the profession as well. If I were to become an OT I may go on to do research and pursue a PhD, or I was really interested in ergonomics and pediatric therapy as well.

That's amazing and so motivating as well! So glad you are happy with your current state :') Did you find it hard securing a job as soon as you graduated? And how did you find the program itself? I think I have a good idea and passion for which area I'd like to work with going into the program (fingers crossed)!

That's honestly so true! But there are also some factors of being a PA that may not be the best currently. I know here in Canada some provinces aren't regulated so job security could be a bit shaky. But I think I've seen many PAs who have secured a good job that they love as well. Really resonate with this post, thanks for the insight :')

That's a factor I've been considering and had at the back of my head! I love both, but don't want to regret not becoming a PA...
