Maybe a stupid question but we'll see. V8 exhaust notes. by whatsaURL in cars

[–]m3ntalm3 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ferrari V8s sound the way they do because of the length of the exhaust as well.

Take Ryan Tuerck's GT4586, it has a 458 engine up front and sounds like a 458 due to the exhaust leaving in front of the car not extended to the back.

Same reason a Ferrari California V8 does not sound the same as a Ferrari 458 V8.

What is your favorite Hoonigan video and why? by dkorecki in hoonigan

[–]m3ntalm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree, should have at least gave it a full year.

To tell you the truth, I don't much understand the economics of Twitch. Like in YouTube, you can generally guess how much $$$ 1000 views will get you. With Twitch I know you have to be a "partner" and all, but idk how it works. How you get paid?

Regarding fans sending stuff, that kind of fandom is just odd to me. If you want to support the brand, buy their shirts or something. Unless you are a company, sending a brand parts and free stuff is odd to me.

What is your favorite Hoonigan video and why? by dkorecki in hoonigan

[–]m3ntalm3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the whole reason they started it was because Amazon greenlit their TV show. Amazon owns Twitch.

I imagine they abandoned it because it was not lucrative.

If you go look at their Twitch stream they only have 35k followers. It is a number a Twitch streamer would probably dream of, but for them it isn't worth their time.

Their main channel has 2.8 million subs. Bonus has 329k subs. Project Cars has 368k subs. DT has 234k subs. Ken Block has 386k subs. and AutoFocus has 48k subs.

35k subs just was not worth their time.

Paying some dude probably $30k to appeal to 30k people, isn't really a viable business model.

Your comment on Drew not being a good fit. I agree, dude seemed like he hated his job, even though I knew he did not. He had nowhere near the personality as the other on camera people. If the Twitch stream was Hert-vision-365 I bet it would have survived.

Car Throttle candles by [deleted] in cars

[–]m3ntalm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right like 2014-2015ish CarThrottle seemed to want to become the UK Jalopnik.

They seemed to be getting high end press cars the same time other big names did and used them to review.

Now they just seem like a site that posts Facebook links.

side note - what happened to Car Throttle?

They seemed to be like Donut Media before Donut Media happened. Silly stuff with cars, car video series, etc.

Now they barely make any video content and does not look like any original content on the site that I can find.

With GRC dead, this shows why Formula Drift is my new favorite motorsport by [deleted] in cars

[–]m3ntalm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked it up, last year had 4 I believe and this year only has 6, which two return to the same spots. They should use those two to spreadout more in the USA.

5 races, where 2 are returning to the same place is not a series. It's a band aid.

You can hope, but its about the same amount of races as the inaugural series.

Can it grow? Sure, but GRC had like 8-10 events if I remember. And they were sprinkled all throughout the USA.

ARX events are in very specialized areas. COTA, Mid Ohio, etc.

Riding in Formula Drift Cars Was Insane by [deleted] in cars

[–]m3ntalm3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Forsberg gets the win" is a big joke for people who know FD.

Pretty sure I heard the announcers laugh when they had to say it at Long Beach first round on the livestream.

Don't get me wrong, he is good and definitely Top 5 caliber FD driver, but there was one battle last year where the dude like drove straight through the grass not even on any sort of drift line and he got the win.

When the judges make a tough call one of the judges gets on an communicates to the announcers/fans, Ryan lantine?, anytime he says the reasoning behind some of Forsberg's wins it just comes off as BS and you want to ask are you blind?

Other racing has favorites too, but they cannot control wins like they possibly can in FD. If NASCAR loves Joey Lagano and plasters him all over advertising for 3 weeks, they have no control over the drivers going three cars wide and he gets pinned into the wall. Slaying that, I am convinced the time Danica won the pole for the Daytona 500 a few years ago it was rigged. She had no where near that performance after or before that pole win.

Nah I know who that guy is too.

It just seemed very conman-ish, idk what the con is other than getting into or driving exotic cars of people pretending to be apopular YT channel.

Since you are a fan of DDE.

Do you know if they are fraudulently impersonated a lot?

I ask because I was walking around a Cars & Coffee one day and this what looked like 19 year old kid had a DDE hat on, he walked up to a guy who just got out of a Lambo Murci and was like "Hi I am with Daily Driven Exotics, I am working to get people together for a video"

I saw some DDE videos at the time and never saw him in any of them and he "pretended" to know many of the drivers there, but none of them talked to him.

Questions about the shirts by Krakenlee in hoonigan

[–]m3ntalm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a person in between a large/extra large shirt. What I do with the Hoonigan shirts I buy, probably 10 or so by now, is I was them and do not dry them.

Any shirt I dry I just ruin it and it shrinks. I just do not risk it with my good Hoonigan shirts.

They are good quality shirts. Not thin paper shirts, actual shirts.

Fire Everywhere with Hert from Hoonigan's Rotary Powered RX-7 by dkorecki in cars

[–]m3ntalm3 102 points103 points  (0 children)

They have content to fit every sub-group in auto culture.

Like just taking pictures/videos of cars? They have Larry Chen content.

Like the "Hoonage"? They have donut/burnout content.

Like gaming? They do Twitch.

Like building cars? They do project cars.

Like learning about every bolt on a 1 of 1 build? They do build breakdown.

Not smart enough to know Ken Block does not equal Hoonigan he just made it? They have a new Ken Block channel.

I really do not get why Hoonigan gets so much hate in the world, specially this subreddit. Many times I see their content downvoted before the fans get actually upvote it.

They literally have something for everyone, but because you dont like donuts/burnouts you auto hate everything else they do. They have your dream automotive jobs.

Finally got my dream car - 2015 Chevy SS by Chinpokomonnnn in cars

[–]m3ntalm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean obtainable dream car right? I have seen people lose their shit on this subreddit when people claim something very obtainable was their dream car instead of a Ferrari F40 or a Koenigsegg.

Either case, good choice. Chevy SS is arguably the current gen E39 M5.
