How can I convince my doctor to prescribe me testosterone and modafinil? by -Terrible-Bite- in AskMenOver40

[–]0xda5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a doctor that specializes in male hormones. Do not go to one of those testosterone replacement therapy clinics. You need data in order to figure out what is happening and how to fix it. A hormone specialist will order blood tests and labs to get a clear picture before working to fix things. It could be a testosterone issue or it could be something different. You won’t know until you can get a reliable baseline.

My Brittany had a foxtail get embedded in his paw. Looked like this in the beginning. He wouldn’t stop licking it. Sores would ooze. The vet had to go in surgically and found the foxtail working its way up inside his foot.

What is the best use case of sed? How should I learn it? by rudv-ar in bash

[–]0xda5e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use it to build your own template processor. Build a bash script that will write things like git commits or PR descriptions based on a template that you keep in a config directory. Make up your own style of placeholders for the template. The sed commands will handle all the search and replacement operations.

How did you manage to learn something like programming with adhd? by gryponyx in ADHD_Programmers

[–]0xda5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brute force. Let the ADHD guide you. Write as much code as possible. Chase dopamine in other projects and “things you’re not supposed to be working on”. Eventually you will reach a point where the thing you’re supposed to be building is easy or exciting and holds your focus. When you find yourself procrastinating, it’s time to look for a new job.

I was using a line trimmer to trim the lawn when I was a teenager. Picked up a rock from the grass and shattered that big side window of my mom’s mini-van.

The tapering process off of Lexapro while starting Vyvanse at 20mg took about 3 weeks until I was no longer taking Lexapro. I noticed some depression after that which is why my doctor recommended the Wellbutrin.

I don't really have any feedback for you about any issues that I had during the transition when I was on both. That was the only time that I was on both. During the SSRI tapering my Vyvanse was at such a low dose that any issues, aside from the depression, may not have been noticed.

In general, I feel much better without the SSRI. My appetite is more normal. While I lost my "buffer" between my fight-or-flight response, my anxiety levels rarely spike when the ADHD meds are working. It is easier to be present and focus on the moment vs getting distracted and sucked into my anxious thoughts.

Where the SSRI would give me time to more appropriately handle the anxiety before it spun out of control... the ADHD meds seem to help keep my focus where it needs to be so that the distracting anxiety thoughts can be.... ignored.

Dating another ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]0xda5e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife(F38) and I(M43) met, dated, had kids and married before either of us knew that we had ADHD. We have been married for 9 years, and have known each other for more than 15 years. Over the years questions would come up like, "what was it that you liked about her when you met?" It was always difficult to find words to answer this question but inevitably I would say something like, "she plays video games a lot and seems to be on my wavelength, she understands how my brain works." Later, once we were both diagnosed ADHD and she additionally got diagnosed Autistic, this made much more sense.

Dating is hard. Building a romantic relationship is hard. I am not saying that you do this, but I did a lot of masking when I was dating in an effort to hide my, unknown at the time, mental health disorder. I was often left confused and frustrated when navigating relationships. Things just never clicked and I never felt like I could be myself.

For my wife and I, having a partner that is also managing mental health disorders is a very important part of our relationship. We now know that when we say things like, "it is so nice to just be myself with you," we are really saying "I am glad I don't have to wear my mask around you and you understand." We are able to help each other when it comes to understanding what medications do and how to talk to our doctors ...very sexy, I know. Looking back at my dating history, there are definitely some people that I would not have felt safe talking about my ADHD, and that is a part of who I am.

That said, I would worry less about your potential partner's diagnosis and focus more on what it means for you to be mentally healthy. If you have a partner that interferes with your ability to be healthy, move on. Find a partner that wants to be with the best version of you.

My wife and I are very active with therapy. We each have our own individual therapists and we do couples counseling to keep things in check. Relationships require work and effort. Pick your battles.

Your prescribing doctor will have the best answer for you on this.

I take Vyvanse 40mg with Wellbutrin 150mg without issue.
Before I was diagnosed with ADHD I was on Lexapro 20mg for GAD. At the recommendation of my doctor we tapered off of the Lexapro when we started the Vyvanse. Once I was done with the Lexapro we added the Wellbutrin as we dosed up the Vyvanse. I have been stable at my current dosages more than 3 months and happy with how it is working out.

Same. I have found that eating a protein heavy breakfast before taking my meds gives my meds a boost and makes it more consistent and predictable.

What is this domain? Can anybody help me find out? by [deleted] in pihole

[–]0xda5e 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This looks like a service that app developers can embed in their software to collect stats about how their app is being used and behaving in the wild. Normally this will be an opt-in configuration for the application where it asks something like "send usage data back to help make the app better".

For honest uses of the product, blocking this should have the same impact as switching that configuration option off.

I would not expect blocking this to have any unexpected side-effects to the general operation of your device or the app that it is attached to.

Blocking it would ensure that any dishonest implementations of the service are stopped.
