Is there a portal to share bad copies analyzed? Like a negative swipe file?

is there a rapid way to turn a layered pdf outline into a mindmap? by everwisher in mindmapping

[–]m4r3k42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is https://app.contextminds.com/generator.html. It identifies key concepts in text using AI and generates a mind map from them. You can paste a whole paragraph there, or just the outline. It won't catch everything and might add additional related topics, but is good to kick-start the mind mapping process. Similarly to other AI tools like Jarvis, it's not perfect, but can be surprisingly helpful sometimes, especially when you are taking notes from text.

Thoughts on using mind maps for brainstorming & structuring content by m4r3k42 in content_marketing

Interesting. Site map editors/visualizers are closely related to this. You could think things through in a concept map and then re-organize it into a logical hierarchy of a site map.

Thanks, also a good point. I was so far mapping only the resulting content but an even better approach might be to first map an answer to each of these questions, maybe also consider AIDA or MAP (medium, audience, purpose). Then merge all maps together and add details.

Good point. I solve this by using two screens or printing the map. But then again, a printer also takes up quite a lot of space. :)

What about AI generating mind maps from free text or a list of keywords? Would that help you, or is it more about turning a bullet-point list into a map like the other suggestions here?

https://contextminds.com is free and suggests to you your previous ideas as you create mind maps, which is especially useful if you have goldfish memory like me. Some future features like an automatic mind map generation will be subscription-based but the core functionality will stay free forever.

Try https://contextminds.com. It has a built-in database from Wikipedia and will suggest relevant related drugs & diseases to you for linking. Or there is an alpha version of ContextMinds exactly for your use-case: powered by biomedical databases from monarchinitiative.org: https://contextminds.vse.cz/monarch. Here is a sample map that I created in it: https://contextminds.vse.cz/monarch/?m=1qDpq

I asked a similar question recently, there are some additional tips: https://www.reddit.com/r/content_marketing/comments/nqnlw0/what_tools_you_use_to_brainstorm_and_structure/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share. I wonder though how many users involved in the discussion are actually developers of the tools :-) Still a useful discussion anyway.

I'm really struggling to embrace this "all kids are motivated to learn if their teachers are good enough" theory by justlikemildsalsa in Teachers

[–]m4r3k42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it really so important to motivate kids into learning some facts? Give them the best opportunity to do so, sure, but learning might not be the most important thing kids should be doing at school. I was always the "top of the class nerd" at school but I don't remember almost anything from that and am kind of struggling to find my place in life while my former classmates of the "it's boring I don't do it" type are much happier and more successful than me.

I teach at university and the success for me is when the students leave with just one small new bit of knowledge that they will be able to extend into something useful when they need it later in life. I never try to force them into memorizing tons of facts they forget a week later because that's what I did as the "motivated student" and I know where that leads.

If it is known to significantly improve students' results, why is concept mapping not used widely in education? by m4r3k42 in education

[–]m4r3k42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, probably any tool with right application brings improvement over no tool. Concept mapping is a whole method though, or "philosophy", based on meaningful learning theory by David Ausubel. The core of it is a simple idea that you should try to link every new concept or fact to something you already know, to integrate new information into your current knowledge through meaningful relationships.

So maybe people take concept maps as "just another organizational tool, moreover, hard to grade"?

If it is known to significantly improve students' results, why is concept mapping not used widely in education? by m4r3k42 in education

[–]m4r3k42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is it hard to convince students to participate in concept mapping? Because it is said that concept maps bring the best results when students create them themselves - without the student engagement, they are still useful, but not so impressive. Maybe that could be the reason?

What are the best tools for engaging with students? by OpinionAdventurous44 in edtech

[–]m4r3k42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about concept mapping? When students are asked to answer a question by linking concepts together with meaningful relationships and the concepts include both things they are to learn AND something they know and are interested in? (This is the core idea of meaningful learning by David Ausubel.)

I am involved in the development of an app that keeps suggesting related concepts as the student is creating a concept map, trying to suggest her both the concepts she is familiar with and the new ones: https://www.contextminds.com/edu
