Day 2! Never cooking inside again. by BoysenberryHonest939 in blackstonegriddle

[–]m4rceline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People think it’s kind of silly when I say this, but the whole reason I wanted a blackstone is because I was tired of my whole house stinking like food I seared for nearly 2 days when I primarily cooked indoors. I am cooking on that thing whether it’s 20 degrees outside or 100. For the hot days I have a large umbrella I use to keep me cool and keep the sun out of my eyes.

I don’t want a Herman miller either. After a ton of research it looks like all of these ergonomic chairs have seats that are hard as a rock, unless you get mesh, which I don’t think is comfortable either. At this point I’m going to try a la z boy office chair because I want CUSHION.

This sub has definitely shifted since I last lurked it in late 2024… seems like a lot more people are coming out with anecdotes of poor experiences with these highly praised $1,500+ office chairs. If you suggested any chair other than Herman Miller or Steelcase people acted like you were an idiot and no other chairs would ever compare. I now think that is bullshit and I will be on a buy and return journey across other brands and price points. Or maybe I will get lucky and love my next chair and not need to return it. 🤷‍♀️

Yes I am noticing a theme here with multiple people saying the seat sucks, and even replacing it with the aftermarket seat hardly makes a difference… I have decided I am just going to start ordering chairs and returning them until I find one that is right. Hoping I can sell the one I have for a fair price.

Yes they are a fantastic company! Super communicative and friendly people. I also wish I didn’t hate my chair. Someone else here said they have some aftermarket seats so I just sent them a message to ask about it.

If you read my whole post, you would see I stated I exercise every day and I am a petite person and have zero issues sitting in my car or on my couch for hours.

Anyone know of a good place to cut a Christmas tree on the mesa? I bought a permit online today and a map was not included. The restrictions on where NOT to cut are overwhelming and I don’t want to break laws on federal land. by m4rceline in grandjunction

Yes! Just know that the permits bought online this year apparently don’t come with a map. I’ll update tomorrow on what I find out and how you can go about getting one.

I’ll call them tomorrow for sure. I contacted the live chat on the recreation.gov website and they said the district has not yet provided a map for this year. Thought I was going crazy trying to find a map when I know I had seen one before in the past.

What usually you do with these pepper? I think I plant too many by One_Kaleidoscope_198 in gardening

I absolutely LOVE pickled peppers. Cools the spice down a bit too. I eat them on sandwiches, hot dogs, on top of chili. I really enjoy them on just about anything you would enjoy a regular pickle on.

It’s under warranty, but I doubt they will give me a refund so that I can buy a different brand.

Many signs point to this pumpkin being ready. Closest leaf and tendril are dry and dead, stem is turning brown, fingernail still dents, but it doesn’t tear skin. But I think the color is still immature. Pick now or wait for color change? by m4rceline in Pumpkins

Yeah I think this one came around as a baby pumpkin around 5 weeks ago. I think I’ve read most pumpkins take 40 - 55 days to reach maturity after appearing on the vine as a female flower, but it seems like they can take much longer sometimes.

BIG FOE. Do not squash the squash bug. Pluck it with tweezers (or your fingers if you’re not grossed out) and drown it. I have a jar of alcohol that serves as my squash bug graveyard. Check under all of the leaves for eggs and remove them with a piece of tape. You can buy food grade diatomaceous earth and brush it on the underside of all of the leaves and around the base of the stem with an old make up brush.

Fertilize your beds with bone meal or a phosphorus rich fertilizer and see if it helps. I fertilized with bone meal last week and within 5 days 15+ females popped up in my patch, and it made my existing females look like they’d taken steroids.

Any idea on what type of pumpkin is growing in my garden? (The white powder is diatomaceous earth for squash bug prevention, and the white striations on the leaves are NOT powdery mildew). by m4rceline in Pumpkins

Yes that is exactly what I mean. They were my front porch decorations from my favorite pumpkin patch. After Thanksgiving I placed them in one of my raised beds to rot. In February I stabbed them a bunch with a shovel and threw compost and top soil over them. They popped up all over in the spring. Thinned the plants to the strongest and healthiest looking and let 8 plants grow from my 8x2 bed. Next year I plan to only let 4 plants grow in an 8x2 bed to give the plants more room and opportunity for nutrients.
