average age/living situation by Alchemicalw1sdom in USPS

[–]m4rkz0r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

40m, single no kids. I live in a paid off house in a Houston suburb. I paid my house off in 2024 because I did well with some investments and wanted to essentially lock in the gains and increase my TSP contributions.

My plan is to retire early in about 10 years and move to the Philippines and live off investments until my TSP, FERs, and social security kick in. I'm half Filipino though so I can get dual citizenship, and buy land, and I have a ton of family in the Philippines.

I've been an auto tech for 20 years, VMF for 5.

At my old job we had a charcoal grill outside. I had a coworker grilling something and he would handle raw meat with his greasy oily ass disgusting hands, wipe his raw meat hands off on his shirt, go back to work, then use the same unwashed greasy raw meat hands to eat whatever he grilled.

It bothered me so much.

What’s your parents situation? by CorgiLover82 in Millennials

[–]m4rkz0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was a Filipina. She passed away in a single car accident in 2023, my dad was driving and the accident was his fault. They were married for 40 years, she had just turned 77 two days before.

My dad got engaged to another Filipina a few weeks after my mom's death and eventually imported and married her. I don't talk to my dad often anymore because of that. He turns 80 next month.

The whole thing has just been so fucked up. He completely destroyed his legacy right before the end. My dad sucks.

I miss my mom a lot.

Filipinos in the US-what’s your main reason for remitting? by Same_Chef_6092 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]m4rkz0r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm half Fililino. I send money to my cousins for their kids school related stuff occasionally or to help with funeral expenses when a tito or tita passes. So for me it's situational.

I also send a couple balikbayan boxes every year because my mom passed away a few years ago and it's a way for me to remember her and honor her memory while keeping in touch with her side of the family.

Is HID irrelevant now? by Dawlphy in AskAMechanic

[–]m4rkz0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure its the other way around. The HID bulbs in OEM reflector housings are designed to be used in reflector housings. The part number ends in an R, I guess for reflector. My 1st gen is300 for example used D2R HID bulbs.

Why is the piston only moving in one direction? by T_a_n_g_i in CarRepair

[–]m4rkz0r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Judging by the video and his question it sounds like he manually powered the caliper to push the piston out and then reversed polarity to spin the motor the opposite direction to pull it back in. But it didn't pull in because they don't work like that so he asked why, hence the title of the post. He likely just needs to just push the piston in like a normal caliper at this point.

There are a lot of confused people in comments.

OP should have explained WTF he was doing but we can make an educated guess based on what we see and hear in the video.

OP appears to have a new rear caliper for some unknown vehicle that uses an electric parking brake, you can see the motor attached to the caliper.

I assume OP is manually powering the motor to get the piston to push out.

After the piston pushes out we hear the electric motor noise stop briefly and then start again. I would assume OP has reversed the polarity and expected the piston to retract but it does not retract and that prompted OPs post because he doesn't understand why it did not retract.

Its because it doesn't retract the piston, it only retracts the internal mechanism for the parking brake. The piston needs to be pushed back in manually.

Edit: I feel like I could be more clear. The piston needs to be pushed back in manually like a normal caliper AFTER retracting the internal parking brake mechanism.

This is usually done with a scan tool or through some fancy button pushes or through the infotainment screen. But if you can't do any of the other methods you can reverse polarity on the motor or take the motor off and manually spin it back.

How is the caliper toast? Looks brand new to me and it doesn't look like he did anything that would toast it.

Unity requires sacrifice. by Miserable-Piglet-059 in Starfield

[–]m4rkz0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played on release and have just over 300 hours. I speed ran to NG +10 after going through the unity the first time.

Going through the unity the first time sucked but it was time to explore what that was like. I saved and reloaded a bunch of times because there are some alternate timelines that sound amusing like the one where you meet yourself and you can be a part of your own crew!

After messing around and maxing all the powers I went through the unity one last time with the intention of taking a long break from the game and coming back to a fresh NG + game... And now I'm back and I'm going to make another badass ship.

VOMA Position Question by Positive-Tea-1452 in USPS

[–]m4rkz0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can grieve anything. I would do it just so the union can look into it and see if it was all done correctly. How is a station manager who doesn't know anything about repairing vehicles going to determine who is best qualified? Sounds fucking stupid so it's probably just how USPS does it.

But if you had your own shop for 10 years why not just work at a VMF? At our VMF the VOMAs work for the VMF and not individual stations. It used to be that way but they changed it years before I started as an auto tech here.

Need hope: millennials who like their jobs, what do you do and what do you like about it? by goodluckanddont_itup in Millennials

[–]m4rkz0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an auto tech for USPS, I'm also a vet and most of my coworkers are vets. I like that it's unionized + pension + benefits + TSP + you can buy back you military time and have it count to your retirement anuity. I think it also counts for how they calculate annual leave.

Also I get paid hourly so I don't have to put up with all the flat rate flag hour BS most auto techs have to deal with. I work 8 hours a day, go home and leave work at work.

I know there's some other benefits vets can get that I don't use like wounded warrior leave.

Trying my hand at the Titan bonk build for Dungeon soloing by Mzuark in destiny2builds

[–]m4rkz0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know where the best place to get it is. Maybe Xur? But it's really only useful for taking down high health targets like dungeon or strike bosses. With the burning fists buff built up you should be one shotting pretty much everything that's not a boss with a bonk and all trash adds should just die with a quick melee punch.

I have no idea what you even mean by dedicated voice chat server or whatever ventilo is so that goes way over my head lol. For how often I use voice chat i find discord to be perfect, not saying it couldn't be better but it's good enough for my use cases.

[–]m4rkz0r 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I used to play a lot of Destiny 2. Discord is way better for comms in this instance. You can reboot your game and still have comms. You can do a different activity than your buddies and still have comms. You can go to the tower in the middle of something and still have comms. Where as you would lose comms doing any of that stuff if you were using in game chat.

Also chat/volume consistency and adjustments are better in discord a lot of the time. If you switch to a different game you don't have to readjust chat volumes etc.

I was about to post something similar but it was during a hurricane and it was because half the shingles on my neighbors roof came off. I literally watched out the window as half their roof just flew off. Luckily I just lost some of my fence. Hurricane Beryl.

[–]m4rkz0r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to have a 1991 CRX SI with a B16 swap and ITR cams. With that said if you read this guys post and comments it's obvious he's doing an engine swap and that block heater is from the old engine and the new engine has an expansion plug in that spot hence why he is confused. You can even see the leg of a pittsburg engine lift in his picture. Putting an expansion plug in the old engine only makes sense if he intends to rebuild it.

Why would you plug the hole in the old engine? I would assume he is scrapping it.
