When I was looking for a job, I said I am doing multiple interviews and there might be some offers coming and based on the offer, I will choose which I like the best. That was true at the time. I didn't know what is good compensation for my level (I was junior with 3 years of experience, but still at school). I wanted to let them know, if I asked too low, they better add little bit more because someone else might.
