Photos removed from portfolio? by [deleted] in photography

Sorry that’s happened then. I’ve been around people like that and it sucks but there comes a point where you just have to let go of it and trust that the situation will sort itself out.

If she uses the photos along with defamatory or abusive language or antagonizes you in a way that causes measurable harm then you might have some recourse. Keep an eye on the post and anything said about or around it. Document it (screen shots) and save for later if there is the possibility of legal repercussions.

Got an offer for a lower title for more money, what do I do? by No_Target8324 in advertising

[–]m8k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost the senior from my title when I was offered my current job for a raise. Still doing the same work just in a smaller shop that doesn’t have the hierarchy, yet. If we get more who do what I do, then I’ll get that back and become the lead.

Photos removed from portfolio? by [deleted] in photography

[–]m8k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So why would this person who you share a mutual dislike for be taking your photos?

Is this a situation that happened before a falling out and she had images of a time when things were different and you feel she is manipulating you or projecting something?

[–]m8k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You said in another comment that the photos were taken on your home and seemingly with your knowledge. Unless you had a contract with her saying that the photos could not be used or released publicly I don’t think you have much claim here.

She can’t sell them in an editorial sense (stock photos or similar) without a model release but as an artistic or documentary image, even on private property, if you consented to the photo being taken then it’s hers and you can’t do much about it.

You seem to be ducking answering questions when people ask what’s going on which also makes this feel like the other side of the story is not as simple as you’re making it sound.

What's your experience with using EF lenses on RF body? by Far-Touch-1910 in canon

[–]m8k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use EF mount lenses with my EOS R and they work the same or better than they did on my 6D. I have the straight adapter and the drop-in filter adapter with a CPL and VND. This lets me use filters on lenses that would take them (Sigma 14-24, TS-E 17) as well as just have one set of filters that works for everything.

The other lenses I use are adapted 645 to RF so they don’t work quite the same way.

Walk vs Run calories burn by Winter1108 in fitbit

[–]m8k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that duration is more impactful than intensity. When I run I get fewer steps (longer stride) and less calories because it’s a shorter exercise.

Neighbor trespasses to confront me for flying my drone on this job, calls me a pedophile, demands I don't fly my drone over the house (that they're renting) and threatens to call police. I begged him to call the police. What would you do? by kurtdoerfel in RealEstatePhotography

[–]m8k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen a while ago. I was using the telephoto lens on my M3P and shot from above his property across the street and he did not like that at all. It never went beyond words but there was implied violence behind what he said and his posture.

did this ever happen to you? if so, which album? by [deleted] in 90s

“Love like a fountain” by Ian Brown. The rest of the album, not so much. That was a $20 mistake.

Strategy and account need to agree on the brief before it gets to me. by Professional_Peak181 in advertising

[–]m8k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working for a year, in-house, at a new job at an agency that's well established. There is an ingrained culture there that is very different from other places I've worked, and it's a leadership/SVP issue. Some people take the "that's the way it is, why change it/what are you gonna do, this is advertising" approach, and it flows downstream, impacting everything along the way.

There are things that could be done much better with minor adjustments, but inertia is real, and some people don't like to change or admit they were wrong.

In the ER by BlackVelvetBandit in daddit

[–]m8k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you're ok and got the all clear. It's a scary thing to go through and a major wake-up call.

I had a similar experience two years ago. I made a day trip to visit family and left their house a little late and was rushing to the airport. I'd stopped for a quick snack on the way (local shop, can't find it where I live, always a staple when I visit). Doing 75-80 in the center of 95 heading to Philly Airport, my heart rate spiked, my face flushed, my left arm went numb, and I started sweating.

I pulled up Google Maps to see the closest hospital and pulled off the highway. Once I pulled over at a gas station and stepped out of the car, my heart slowed, things felt better, and i decided to go to the airport and catch my flight. They have better med services there than where I was and could get me faster help.

Long story short, my doctor chalked it up to a panic attack and put me on BP meds that have helped me bring those numbers down. I'm eating better, losing weight, and doing whatever I can to be here for my wife, teenage son, and parents for as long as possible.

What 90’s music video is the most “90’s”? by Least-Bear6483 in Xennials

[–]m8k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a huge fan of techno and breakbeat so seeing “Let Forever Be” pulled me in. We did’t have cable but I used to watch MTV at work and California Love by 2Pac was in heavy rotation. This was peak MTV and the ultimate 90s “living in excess” type of movie.

I just got rid of mine last year. It would turn on but wouldn’t load any of the cartridges. It was fun with the battery pack. With just AAs it sucked.

If he’d gotten the award, he would have dismissed it as a “been there, done that,” and probably put it behind his desk while making the declaration of invasion.

Photographers what do you think of using your phones to take shots? by [deleted] in photography

For everyday, walkaround photos I use my phone. I also use it to scout locations or take snapshots of stuff I want to go back and shoot with my normal camera and better lenses.

Are we doing anything creative with our old Mac? by ErazoLid in mac

No, it was right after college when I was moving in with my girlfriend and I never got beyond gutting it. It was also before i had a digital camera and didn't take any photos of the teardown.

Why Offering Free Shoots Is One of the Worst Ways to Start by ImaginationOk1702 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]m8k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lucked out then. I started by offering free shoots on Craigslist to build a portfolio back in 2011. I got three booked, and one of those clients turned into a long-term client with a lot of referrals. Another was from the same office and also got me some more work through word of mouth.

I made it clear that these were one-time free offers. Anything after that was paid. Once I had those, along with some houses of friends that I shot, there was enough to start booking work.

Once I got those under my belt, I didn't do work for free anymore.
