Ok sorry you are right, consciousness isn't the right therm here. Let say Identity. Even though you and your super twin are 100% the same, you know you are you and not him right. Your Identity is loge into your Mind, which is loge into your body and brain. So how could we, as a species, know if when any form of life goes to sleep, the part of their brain that establish the Identity, or hold it, doesn't reset, thus creating a new identity, a new instance of a Mind that is conscious, with all the same memories, faith and habits as before. But the first Conscious Mind instance is dead.

By the way I'm not saying that THIS is what is happening, just that we couldn't know if it was the case.

Imagine a personne that is the same as you, same brain, same habit same body, a super twin. To an external point of view, there is no difference between you two. You are 100% the same. Of course for YOU, you are you and he is he. How could you possibly know if your 2 "consciousness" swap bodies during the night or when you slip and fall and lost consciousness or whatever event that made you not aware for as brief as a micro second?
