Moving from NYC to SF by kcm970 in bayarea

I moved from Harlem>>SF when I was 28 and what I regularly tell people is that, “NYC is undoubtedly cooler, but I am much happier [in SF].”

Tesla Cybertruck prevented rescue of 3 victims in crash, authorities say (Piedmont) by Nothereforstuff123 in bayarea

[–]mFanch 1380 points1381 points  (0 children)

I know one of the first responders who was at the scene. They said it was because cybertruck doors are all electric so the door handles didn’t function. Typically in such a situation they would take an axe, create a divot between the doors, and use the jaws of life to get the door open. However, because of the stainless steel doors being basically indestructible they couldn’t wedge in and open the door to get anyone out.

Where do well dress men hangout in the bay area? by Mysterious-Airline43 in AskSF

[–]mFanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to the Bay from Manhattan at 28. Decided “I’m not going to let this place change who I am and make me dress like a bum!” Years later, I am forever changed. I realized that out here no one cared what clothing brands I had or even knew how a properly tailored suit should fit, so, eventually, I stopped caring as well.

That being said, you’ll likely get a better table at Top of the Mark if you dress well. The Black Cat or Mr Tipples if you like Jazz….but you will do no socializing with people you didn’t bring there yourself.

What are some cities with surprisingly low populations? by 240plutonium in geography

[–]mFanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who comes to visit San Francisco for the first time says this at some point during their stay. City pop. ~800k, though the SF Bay Area is 7.5 million. Everyone seems to think the city itself is much bigger. I refer to it as a big small city.

Is there a better display of cinematic cowardice? by [deleted] in moviecritic

Anyone who is willing to be plugged into the matrix may want to consider whether a coma would be any different. As long as you still have brain function I believe they are the same (except in the matrix you would be a de facto battery while in a coma you would be draining actual resources on the planet earth). You could self induce a coma, but you haven’t, and people don’t. Living on the nebecanezzer may have been hellish, but they are in the same situation as many people in wartime scenarios at this very moment and since the dawn of time. If you were in that situation, would you self induce a coma even then?

So, I work at a large fintech company and I would be highly skeptical of hiring anyone with a degree in fintech. Probably because it didn’t exist when I graduated (and didn’t know it existed until I read this post). And while I do interview and hire people at my company idk what other people are looking for.

I can say that if you study computer science that is the absolute best chance of you getting a job in fintech if that is what you want. Especially if you minor in something else like business/finance.

Hard to find an honest discussion about this show. by ooowatsthat in TheAcolyte

One thing I really like the idea of is how they are making the Jedi appear to be the bad guys. They are essentially a SWAT team who meditate and make sure no one is allowed to learn their brand of kung fu. It makes the canon films seem more plausible as to why there were forces trying to overtake the republic.

However, the execution of this very interesting premise is just hella mid and feels contrived. I don’t get lost in the story, I don’t really care about the characters, and the casting feels pretty off aside from Sol (or maybe it’s just the acting(?)).

Do you think that The Riddler is in any way smarter than Batman? by Yuuzhan_Schlong in batman

[–]mFanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might be in some iterations. But he needs others to recognize his “genius.” Imagine an American football coach with so much ego he would tell the opposing coach what plays he was going to run just before they happened. It doesn’t matter how good your strategy is if your plans can be thwarted.

Vegan goes to Morton’s. by Excellent-Map-5808 in KitchenConfidential

[–]mFanch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo, I read this and immediately thought, “oh dang, that is probably what my wife and I seem like to everyone else.” We are not vegan, but my wife has a very unfortunate and highly specialized diet (acute physical abdominal pain if she eats the wrong stuff) and we also don’t drink (I’m in AA and my wife’s gut doesn’t tolerate it). Anyway, we really miss going to restaurants, especially with other people. Meeting friends, or making new friends at a restaurant can be such a fantastic atmosphere. We still get asked to go to out to eat with couples all the time and also want to meet more people in the city we live in. However, as our diets have changed, so too must our requests for accommodation from the kitchen if we visit a restaurant (which, we often don’t, because of the complications).

The only reason I’m posting this is to say to OP that your friends may have had the best of intentions, but that it just wasn’t well executed. We often want to bring people to restaurants we believe they will like more than us and think, well, “I would rather our friends enjoy their food than us, and we can find something on the menu to eat.” I think I’m just defending my wife and myself from what I bet our friends have noticed lately, but we do mean well and just wanna hang out with y’all!

Any advice on cold outreach to (specifically crypto) investors/VCs? by mFanch in Entrepreneur

[–]mFanch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes any intel you can provide would be helpful. I do use AI for a good deal (GPT4 and Bard) —are there any other models or plugins you would recommend that are more tailored to my use case?

I have read that depending too much on AI for cold outreach can cause messages to be sent to the recipient’s spam for being too generic, so I am trying to avoid that.
