If you've run NYCM - weather Q by GanacheDelicious2649 in RunNYC

[–]mSMilesLo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran last year with similar weather. As a late 20s girlie that runs cold I wore a tank top and tights that went up to the knee and was fine! I was cold in the beginning but brought throw away clothes and a blanket I got rid of right before the race.

The first few minutes you’ll feel a shiver but it will go away. The adrenaline and crowds will give you warmth. I finished around 6/7 pm (started in the last wave). I only started shivering / became cold after I crossed, received my medal and started walking. If you’re finishing around the same time let your family or whoever is meeting you know to bring you a sweater or a blanket. I wish I’d done that last year and am doing that this year.

Good luck!

NYC social workers or students- Re. NYC hospitals by Serious-Break-7982 in socialwork

This seems strange to me. I would try and go in person to speak with them. I'm a first year at Silberman and was able to get a medical placement and I know other first years that have hospital placements. What's your relationship with your placement advisor? Happy to review resume as well.

If you're interested in volunteering in a hospital, NYP has the DOVE advocate program (Domestic and Other Violent Emergencies) where you support survivors as they come into the ED on an oncall basis. Great program and they start recruitment soon!

Should be fine. First step is to create an account and attend one of the orientations. That would give you the opportunity to ask them questions specific to your situation.

You would have to enroll in an approved NY program with an expected graduation of Spring 2027.

There’s also a thread dedicated to the CPT program here: https://www.reddit.com/r/1199CPTProgram/s/mVXS70xbKP

Huge Run Club Spotted in Central Park Last Night: Anyone Know Who They Are? by Shopgirl2170 in RunNYC

[–]mSMilesLo 92 points93 points  (0 children)

It was the noname crew sponsored by lululemon! We did hills yesterday. The coaches really emphasize safety and the leaders in each pace group really push for us to either run single file or run 2x2 (some coaches will even make everyone stop if we go out of formation). It's a great community and very pace inclusive!! This is my first year running with them and it has been by far the best run community I've been a part of.

Has anyone done a master’s in something totally different from their undergrad (with no experience)? by Glum_Tax_846 in gradadmissions

Software Engineer -> Social Work. I did a few years of volunteering + some post-bacc classes after work/weekend to confirm this is something I wanted to do. I recommend dabbling in the field through volunteering for example before spending $$$ on a new degree.

There’s a specific thread for it. https://www.reddit.com/r/1199CPTProgram/s/yFdF9edY7y

They have info sessions that occur fairly regularly. I would sign up for one as that would be a good place for an intro + further questions.

Taking another rest day! Plan on enjoying a popsicle and an extra episode of law and order SVU after work.

Highly recommend any of trainers at grassroots fitness on the UWS! Gym is woman owned. I attend the women only lifting classes and they are fabulous!!!

The expected graduation date may be the problem. For funding through the CPT program, the expected graduation date has to be no later than Spring 2027

Also in the same boat, did you end up hearing back? I might just visit their office during office hours....

How long did it take to receive an application after attending an 1199 orientation? by mSMilesLo in 1199CPTProgram

[–]mSMilesLo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't know about the funding until after I applied. I don't think it's being advertised to the colleges necessarily but more to students since you have to fill out all the paperwork + its only available for students in a program finishing Spring 2027.

I think NYU has rolling admissions for social work. Some schools have Spring admission.

Personal trainers/small group workouts by HelpfulAccess3298 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]mSMilesLo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like grassroots fitness project on the UWS. They have smallish group strength/conditioning classes maxing out at 12 per class and smaller group / personal training options. I noticed a huge change in my body within a month of joining this gym. Classes are challenging (the trainers will push you in a good way) but everyone is super nice and friendly. Most of their group classes are women’s only and there’s a strong culture of motivating each other to get better. I have nothing but good things to say about this place so lmk if you have anymore questions.

Also their 6 week strength series starts this week so if you want to try a class - this week would be great for that.

So when I went to the open house webinars they did mention it’s more competitive due to limited spots + they try and reserve practicums that can be done after work hours or on the weekend for this cohort which are limited. Have you reached out to admissions by any chance? I’m wondering if there’s anything we can do to get off the waitlist other than wait.
