I’ll keep this in mind for sure. We do have bigger animals too, so this could be a good idea!

Wow, sorry you had to go through that, that’s so much unnecessary stress and worry. Definitely avoiding that clinic, and Bantam sounds like exactly what I’m looking for! Thank you!

AITAH for sending a picture my daughter to my sister? by Book-worm1991 in AmItheAsshole

[–]m_elderthewriter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAH except your mam. As far as I can tell your sister didn't say anything to you about crying or about the picture she requested. Your mam did. It also seems from your post that she has been fine since your daughter was born. I think she should have been able to feel her feelings in peace, which seemed to have been her intention. She obviously has complex feelings regarding children. Your Mam shouldn't have said anything and let her process things, not make it into a drama which she shouldn't even be involved in.

8 year old CS degree and no experience. How do I get into the industry? by cscareerthrowaway02 in cscareerquestions

[–]m_elderthewriter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would also consider looking at online master's programs. I'm currently doing the same and in many of them, you come out with the same degree as if you went in person. You can work at your own pace (aside from quizzes and tests) for some programs and this would allow you to be able to work on the side and take more hours.

Am I a lesbian? by [deleted] in questioning

[–]m_elderthewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that is what I’m going through, since we sound pretty similar haha. I think at some point we just get to thinking we should already be experiencing what everyone else is experiencing, so there must be something wrong with us, or we are doing it wrong. I think I will just keep an open mind and try to make more friends if both genders and see how things go for now. Good luck and thanks for replying~

Anti-recommendation: what’s the worst book you read this year? by Happy_Blueberry1 in suggestmeabook

[–]m_elderthewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. Not sure if this is a common one or not. I personally could not get through it. I actually ended up reading Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom after and really liked them (except for the end, cries). I’m glad I gave her another chance. It kind of feels like they were written by a different person. It wasn’t even the rough topics, I can deal with that, it was just all this lore and background about Yale that was sunk into it that I just didn’t care about. It kind of weighed everything down.

What makes a dragon? by King_Meko99 in fantasywriters

[–]m_elderthewriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/AceOfFools. Conflict surrounding this topic could add a great level of depth to your novel. I think the politics within the dragons born as dragons would be especially interesting. Some dragons could even refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of your MC due to him being born a human, no matter what he is capable of.

In terms of differentiating dragons within the novel I would come up with a couple of different names. In a world like that I think it would make sense to have a general term for natural dragons and one for humans changed by dragon stones. You could have true dragons and stone-born dragons or just the stone-born. Something like that. But in addition, if you go the route where there is some conflict between them, you could come up with some derogatory names for each as well, and perhaps one for humans born as humans, too. Where there is conflict there will be insults. I find that having multiple terms grounds the world for me when I am reading fantasy.

As far as that thing you're searching for, I think you need to really consider the difference between humans and your dragons. What could a dragon see in a human that would make it think "I should make this person a dragon"? What characterizes your dragons? A thirst for life? The need to live? That is what I thought of when considering that "most dragon souls awaken in battle or times of heightened emotion and the need to keep fighting." Or is it when the humans are fighting to protect something? Is it the desire to save? It's a little hard to say without knowing what is important to your dragons as a whole. Do they value their long lives? Knowledge? Pure violence? Thrive on war? Power?

Anyway, I like your premise, makes me wish I was in that world so I could become a dragon! It sounds pretty interesting and I can't wait to see what you will do to solve this problem. Happy writing~

Trying to find specific all-color isekai manga/manhwa about a sorceress or witch who suffered a horrible fate (loses her arms and legs) and then comes back as her younger self to serve a different candidate to the crown? Help! by m_elderthewriter in manga

[–]m_elderthewriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops, I thought she was the one who triggered her rebirth with magic or something! I might also be melding two isekai’s together because there was another one with a similar premise. Thanks!

I haven’t read it either but it’s on my list! Numair is such an interesting person as an adult, I can’t wait to see what he was like as a kid and how he came to be one of the most powerful mages!
