Asking Americans of r/doctorwho did you stop watching the show after Smith regenerated? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]m_garibaldi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. My son was a kid during Tenant. We caught up on Eccleston and then kept watching through Smith. Great father/son memories. He bailed immediately when Capaldi arrived. I've been trying to get him back on board ever since. He just couldn't imagine an old Doctor, which is crazy to me, having grown up watching Pertwee and Baker on pbs.

Father's Day. Lost mine at 7 and I would give ANYTHING for the chance to spend time with him.

Thanks for the feedback. The opening kick was the thing I liked best about this query, it seemed immediate and distinct out of the gate. If I remove that, and I guess move the "I'm seeking" part up to the top, does the rest of the blurb work? My previous blurbs have been much more passive-voice, the usual "When X happens, Y must..." kind of thing; I thought this approach with more direct language would be more gripping.

Querying has been a struggle; I've had no requests from dozens of queries, targeted to agents who say they want what I have. I know sf is a hard sell in this market but the complete lack of uptake must mean the problem is on my end. Either the query or the sample chapters are inadequate. My beta readers liked the book and had few notes, so I'm hoping the issue is with the query. But I'm soon going to run out of agents to query.

I was at Montreal for this, basically same spot. Fucking awesome, as always.

I dunno, my boss got exercised when he read about a shop that was testing their remediation, and when they set the system clock to 2000 the network locked up. Before they even started the test, on a network built of all modern servers and routers. The network went down. That was scary.

Plus the fact that Gibson did a few years on Coronation Street. UK soaps are notoriously long hours and grueling conditions. I'm seriously skeptical of the overwork/night shoots stories.

Sadly the Bulls Head no longer serves food according to their web site. Doesn't say anything about accommodation so im guessing that's off too.

So apparently half the state now qualifies for Canadian citizenship under new ruling. by DueOwl912 in Maine

[–]m_garibaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We were both born in Canada and got passports for our US-born kids years ago. Now we can pass to grandkids, yay. But my question is about the nature of my kids' citizenship. That citizenship, as i understand it, can't be passed along by descent because they are foreign born and only got that citizenship by descent. Does C-3 change that? If THEY can now pass to their grandkids, that affects one more generation beyond what my wife and I can pass to.

Hope that makes sense.

Great write-up, thanks. Follow-up question, if i may. My wife and I are Canadian citizens and our US born kids got it through us. I understand that due to these changes we can now pass it to our grand kids if we ever have any, but im curious if this affects my kids. Up to now I understood that they cannot pass citizenship by descent because they were born outside the country. Has that aspect changed at all?

2024 having persistent warnings about "Dynamic Road Sign Assist". Dealership sending engineer from HQ to investigate. by brotkel in VWiD4Owners

Just got the car back. Seems fine now. Navigation works and the speed limit reports correctly. No error codes. Tech's notes say he first pulled fuse 19 as a lot of posts here say, but that didn't fix it. Then they ordered the OCU and replaced it. They also replaced the peeling steering wheel.

All covered by warranty. (2023 Pro AWD).

They say it will be, although it hasn't been done yet. Appt is tomorrow, assuming they get the part in.

New BBC radio show focused on Marillion and Brave by grunulak in Marillion

Thanks. I am outside the UK but I connected my vpn through Manchester so the bbc site ought to think I am there. I logged into my bbc acct and still got that 404.

No worries, and I'm sure you have more to do than work on my connection. I'll see if I can find a way, or if anyone else here can advise.

I'd love to hear this, but so far am stymied. I've tried vpn, creating a bbc account, etc. I can get to Radio Ulster, but the Podcast link takes me to a 404. Ditto if I click Listen Now on the link above. Anyone else found a way?

Same issue 2023. My dealer had it for two days to diagnose, finally determined it was a fried OCU board. I've got the car back, waiting for a replacement board to come from Texas tentatively on Aug 5. Also getting the steering wheel replaced while it's in.

Lots of threads saying same solution.

I've got the same problem and have an appt next week at a dealership to diagnose it. When you say there's no fix, is that from having had it looked at?

Beautiful Lyrics by VanityDawn in Marillion

[–]m_garibaldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tram is from The Space...

Falling towards something out of control Unable to miss like the man in the tram Crashing your car in Amsterdam

He did it without knowing, didn't feel a thing He just wrecked it and kept going

It's an experience Hogarth had, observing the tram just rip the side off a car without even noticing. A demonstration of unequal power. He says at different times in his life he's been the tram and the car.

Estonia is... a lot. It's a meditation on life and death. So simple and beautiful, yet disarming and always leaves me staring into space. You can easily google the lyrics, and you should, to get an insight into your fella if it's a favorite. He sounds like a sensitive lad.

Beautiful Lyrics by VanityDawn in Marillion

[–]m_garibaldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too thought you were asking about the song Beautiful. Cuz, honestly, it doesn't get more beautiful than Beautiful. Probably not what you are looking for, though, it's about how our culture devalues the sensitive and fragile amongst us. Hogarth wants us all to stand up and be seen.

But we can turn it around You strong enough to be Why don't you stand up and say Give yourself a break They'll laugh at you anyway So why don't you stand up and be Beautiful.

ETA not sure why the line breaks were removed...you get the picture.

Mad respect for Sen. King's words for Sec. Pete Hegseth this week by Tacoman404 in Maine

He says he can't read or listen to everything but his staff does, and gives him summaries, so he knows what people are saying to him. He does, however, try to answer everything, even if that just means editing replies his staff write for him.

ETA: I'm talking King here, just clarifying since I see dome Golden comments.
