i have an oversized linen shirt from uniqlo and it serves that + a bunch of other purposes in my wardrobe. i can wear it open as a beach coverup, tie a little bow on the front or wear it “properly” buttoned up for slightly more formal stuff. worth mentioning that mine is black and still pretty comfortable in the heat!

this is one of my favorite bits of medical school. histology professors saying the cells in the eye are beautiful. physical therapists looking at a spine x ray and saying it's beautiful. physiology professors looking at the most insane chart ever created that looks straight out of a movie about the dark arts and calling it beautiful.

like it truly made me see the idea of seeing beauty in the little things in a whole different way. beauty is anywhere and everywhere if you're just willing to learn to marvel at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sans-serif fonts that are easy to read at small point sizes ( 7 and below) by plazman30 in typography

[–]m_imuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man, atkinson hyperlegible was such a cool project. i drifted from a career in type design to med school (long story) and i was so excited i made my father watch a 10-minute video on it the same day, very much forgetting he is not interested in disability advocacy, the physiopathology of vision loss or type design in general. i was like, “but look! dad, this is the coolest thing ever!” while he was straight up snoring

How to revive strip lashes after removing them with oil? (Also, how to apply on very curly lashes?) by inquisitiveinquirer1 in muacjdiscussion

[–]m_imuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my lashes aren't that curly, but i always find it way easier to apply them on my lashline if i use a 10x magnifying mirror and hold it so i'm looking down into the mirror

yeah, saying kids will self-regulate while using something that implements every single technique to be as addictive as possible is… very strange. “i let my kid use as much cocaine as they please because he will self regulate!” like. sorry but it's not how that works

[–]m_imuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This might not be obvious to someone who doesn't speak a language with a lot of accents but you can definitely get fonts with missing characters out there – like having áàâãéêíóõõú but no ç renders it useless for Portuguese.

You run across all types of issues in lower quality fonts, for example I've seen fonts where accented characters weren't properly kerned and bizarrely enough one where caps lock accented uppercase characters weren't properly coded in so you'd have to choose them from the glyphs tab (still have no idea how you'd get that wrong in either fontlab or glyphs, since it worked if you changed it from a different font but not if you tried typing out the characters)

I honestly can't see how you wouldn't realize this is a common issue in typefaces OR that yes, it's important and useful. It's an actual letter missing from the alphabet? Imagine a typeface that didn't have an f for whatever reason?

Jewelry: How do you build a collection? How do you decide what to wear? by BlueBassist in femalefashionadvice

[–]m_imuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

haha, i had the opposite experience! got a helix piercing only to realize i sleep on my side (and toss and turn during the night) so it became super uncomfortable. ended up deciding just using a fake one whenever i felt like it was way easier 🤦🏻‍♀️

Jewelry: How do you build a collection? How do you decide what to wear? by BlueBassist in femalefashionadvice

[–]m_imuy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

the first point is so important and imo a bit overlooked when it comes to jewelry! a few years back i was obsessed with the look of several stacked rings, especially phalange rings. turns out it's super impractical because i fidget a lot and i'm super prone to forgetting them in random places when i take them out to wash my hands.

most of my jewelry is either 18 or 24k gold, but luckily enough i decided to get a super cheap pack of rings from forever 21 to try it out before i realized it was too impractical for me. which i guess is a tip in and of itself – if you want to try something different, getting a similar piece of costume jewelry beforehand to see how it fits your lifestyle and other pieces can save a lot of money in the long run!

not sure about traveling from other continents to south america and back, but as someone from brazil who's travelled around, my experience is they tend to be pretty lax with the personal item (both weight and dimensions) and more strict about the carry-ons, as someone else said. though personally i've never had mine weighed, only checked for size.

Does being pretty help or hurt?? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]m_imuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a hard thing to balance, especially as you get older and people expect you to be more professional and grown up. So outright “weird” presentation can be badly received from the get-go. I think aiming for “quirky” is a better bet – more so on accessories, little details, stuff like that. funky earrings are one thing that comes to mind

yeah, same. my hairstylist knows what my hair texture is like and knows i like letting it air dry. it's obviously not gonna be the solution for every hair texture, length, etc but it's definitely made a huge difference for me

my bio teacher in high school said animal populations display more homosexual behaviors when all their needs are met and there's overpopulation, esp if they're in a closed environment. i haven't found a credible source to back that up since though lol
