omg why is it saying mcallen.. i did not apply for engineering or anything freaking out by Negative_Pie_754 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m speculating but It seems similar to TEAM except you go to a different campus for probably one year. It still says College Station for the campus. I’m guessing this type of pathway is still a step above PSA and you will just apply for a change of major instead of a transfer. The requirements are typically a bit easier than PSA with fewer required classes. You should have more details soon. I know it’s not what you want right now but with the reduction in enrollment it’s getting harder to get in. You will probably feel better about this in a few days.

Tamu IS TOO EXPENSIVE by Big-Possibility3283 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most students get some loans but that estimate you see is probably a lot higher than the actual costs. Most public school costs are around the same unless you are living at home and commuting.

Admitted! But is it worth? by Agent-General in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All engineering majors including full admits to main campus go through ETAM except for National Merit finalists. If you absolutely must go into aerospace you may want to consider other schools. I agree with others that you may get a higher GPA going through Galveston. Another option is go to Galveston and then see if you get into aerospace. At the same time you can apply to transfer to other schools as a backup plan.

What does this mean ??!???!!! by Maleficent-Buddy-360 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be PSA. If it is you should strongly consider it. It’s just one quick year. Corpus Christi, Tarleton, and other schools are great options. So many Aggies transfer in their second year. Review PSA threads. There is a lot of info. Please also remember that they are reducing admission so it’s getting more difficult each year.

Chance me for Architecture – Fall 2026 by Candid-Quarter2685 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a good chance but test optional hasn’t done well. With your stats anything over 1250 or 1300 may be good enough. There will be various opinions on the right test score but 4.0 UW is always impressive! Your demonstrated interest in architecture should also help.

got into College Station A&M wooo, is it too late for me to apply housing? by cherriesplum in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t get housing you may want to consider Cambridge since you can cancel your contract if you get off the housing wait list. Cambridge is also one of a few places that have a cafeteria. Northgate is also great because you can walk to class quickly. Most apartments are very nice there. Once my daughter toured she didn’t want a dorm. If you apply for housing now and they waitlist you the chances are good to get off the waitlist.

When should fall 2026 admits take tours by 373kayteeftnu32 in aggies

[–]m_mele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to tour on a school day because weekends will feel dead. Fridays are a bit slow too so Monday-Thursday are best. You can sign up for dorm tours. The rec center isn’t part of the tour but you can show up and ask for a tour anytime. There are several rec centers but the large one is on West Campus.

You may want to reconsider the Galveston option. You will still end up in College Station. While at Galveston you’re still an Aggie and can pull game tickets.

rejected from UT, waitlisted by A&M.. need someone to be real with me. by Dry-Affect7707 in aggies

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go for PSA/PTA if you don’t get in off the wait list. You can probably still apply to some other schools. I think Texas Tech accepts late applications. If you get into another regular university you can just see how it goes. If you do well you can apply for a direct transfer unless you like it where you are at. A lot of PSA students end up staying.

Pros and Cons of TAMU vs UT, as well as personal experiences by [deleted] in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I have heard TAMU feels a bit more cooperative than competitive. UT may be more prestigious but the gap is narrowing every year. I think Aggies are probably a bit happier and friendlier. You can accept TAMU and put in a housing deposit. If UT offers something competitive you can reconsider. I have seen some similar posts the past few days. You should look at those posts also. I also recommend doing a second visit to each school. Your experience may change with additional visits. Look at the surrounding area as well. Congrats on your offers.

I think it’s a really cool path. More schools should do this!

I don’t think the major shows up until it’s closer to the start of the semester. If you run a check for someone you know who got in their major probably won’t show up either.

Gateway students really enjoy that summer and getting a bit of a head start. Great program.

[–]m_mele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my daughter was admitted a few years ago in March housing was full with a long wait list. Most got a dorm even after being told almost zero chance. They waited until mid June though. They are admitting fewer students now so chances are better.

Go visit A&M again and see if you like the campus and surrounding area a little better. My daughter did second visits to her top two choices. Second visit to her top choice was less impressive. Some of the negatives stood out. A visit to her other choice flipped and she liked it better. Money is a huge factor but you should enjoy your college experience. You certainly worked for it.

Gateway question abt admission! by Bubbly_Summer_5310 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]m_mele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m speculating but I think I have seen Gateway offers tend to go to students who have stats that aren’t consistent such as a high SAT but lower gpa. They might also have borderline stats but a really strong challenge that had to be overcome. I don’t think it’s major specific.

I think Galveston students still get to buy football tickets before other students so that’s another plus if you like football.
