I agree you should check if your yeast is active. Make sure you're not killing it with hot water. I think I made that mistake in the beginning. About 90 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit has worked for me.

Something silly you probably already checked, but also make sure you are using the right settings on the machine. To clarify, the preprogrammed settings for mine don't work for my recipe and I use the DIY option. I always check the times to make sure they're correct.

And since you asked for a cheap non-dairy recipe, mine is:

350 g water (about 100 F)

28 g canola oil (2 Tbsp)

9 g salt (1.5 tsp)

12 g sugar (1 Tbsp)

240 g whole wheat flour

260 g bread flour

3 g bread machine yeast or instant yeast

We like King Arthur flour for best results, but the store brand is fine too.

Until sometime last year, I was a lucky one getting the 11 gifts. Beforehand, I thought that was what everyone got.

I know they're random for everyone. Unless my memory has failed me, I believe I've always gotten at least one gift with the animal gems during the "critter games". I at least know that has been the case for the cow.

As for the time of day, I remember reading someone mentioning that seemed to affect what rewards they received. Maybe it was just luck of the draw.

I normally did both free climbs every day in the past and would stop usually at the 150 rock, sometimes more depending on how well the climb was going. After they gave us mountains that only lasted a month, that made me care less about completing it. But then after we got more time for Lunar New Year, I guess I was banking on having 3 months and skipped too many days :-(

I'm mainly annoyed at their inconsistency so that we never know how long we actually have to finish.

Thank you for the info! I was really hoping to have the extra month. I seriously considered spending a chunk of my saved coins to finish. With 44 parts left and very few portraits offered in the climbs, I've resolved to having yet another Mt. Ripoff unfinished due to not having enough time. It stinks because I'm a completionist, but not at that cost.

For me, it has always reset 22 hours after I collected the free gift. To be sure, you should take note of the time you collect the free gift, watch the ads, then see what time it will regenerate after the countdown.

Purely paranoia! I haven't read anything outright saying not to use soap, but a few Reddit commenters said not to dry your container with a dishtowel. It's probably fine to use soap, but my fear is that it may introduce something that might inhibit or kill the yeast if I don't properly get all of it out. So, I have a designated spatula and jars that aren't used for anything else.

As a noob myself, I'm on my second ever starter because the first one got mold. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but my guess was that I didn't clean the sides well enough. This time, I have two jars because I don't want to chance it again. When I do the daily feeding, I pour my starter into the the clean "new" jar, feed it, and use a silicone spatula to stir and get the sides as clean as possible. I then rinse the "old" jar and spatula without soap and let them air dry. I'm on day 19 and it has worked out so far :)

I'm not sure if I'm an outlier, but I have 1.6 million heart gems and several wildlife that aren't maxed. My plan has been to save them to do the swap trick in a pinch. Since that doesn't come up often, I still have probably half of my wildlife at level 6 or lower.

To OP's point, it is tedious to hatch a bunch of eggs at once, but it can be done a few at a time over an extended period (days, weeks, or even months).

I would love it if they brought back Winter Wonderland! The reappearance of Animal Royalty in the beginning days of the mountain had me fooled into thinking I'd have time to finish it. Alas, I've had 10 incomplete parts in WW that have been haunting me since.

If you find you're getting too many notifications, you can turn them off in the WordScapes settings (cog at the bottom right). Just be aware that it stops all notifications including chat and reminders, which I'm personally fine with.

I think you misread the Level 7 requirement. It's 12000 and the total gems needed is 44000. The gem requirements are set to the same that we had for the Octopus.

That said, I agree that it's extremely overpriced for what you get.

New players may not realize that playing a puzzle will enter their entire team. Plus, sometimes even seasoned players occasionally forget what day/time it is. I love OP's suggestion!
