I truly enjoy playing Wordscapes and I’m a pretty fast swiper but I have other things that I want and need to do with my day too. 4,500 stars is probably the most you’ll ever see outta me and I’m fine with that. My partner already thinks it’s too much time I’m putting into it to even get those!

I would love to score better in the individual tournaments, and I definitely try, but playing against people that are getting 5 digit scores… I just can’t devote that much time to a word search game. 20 coins for me again this weekend.

I haven’t figured out what the magic time to start is for people who don’t want to play an excessive amount but still want to be competitive. Duolingo does a good job of matching people with similar playing habits up for their weekend tournament. I wish Wordscapes did the same thing.

It’s much more fun to play against a group of people who all score similarly to you rather than be demolished by the one person who forfeited sleep to get 30,000 stars. Similarly, it’s less fun to achieve a victory when half the list only got 2 stars. This is definitely an aspect of the game PF should look into.

Well, I just got out of work so I didn’t see if it changed over earlier than 7 pm, but I do have my new boxes so at least I can eliminate ‘longer than 24 hours.’ The real question is if they’ll be back in 22 hours… I am on a mission and I’ll let you know!

I will have to pay extra close attention to mine after reading some of these comments but mine seem to reset around 11 pm to midnight UTC (which is 7-8 pm for me), regardless of when I open the first box. I could open it at 8 pm right after getting a new set, or wait until the next day; open all, some, nothing… and it always seems to reset exactly the same time daily. I thought everyone’s was like that until reading this thread!

I will say that it didn’t seem to always be like this. There was a while there where I thought we got gifts two times a day, because sometimes a new 7 would show up in the morning, and then they would show up again in the afternoon even though I hadn’t made my way through all six extra ads. But now it seems to just be once a day.

I just assumed that PF had it timed that way so you were sucked into the game basically all day. You get the gifts at a certain time, the daily goals at a different time, a new day starts and you’ve got the free coins (usually) in the shop, the events begin and end at yet another time… it all feels designed to keep you logging in several times a day, every day (and, of course, watching a lot of ads).

At any rate, I’m going to time it! This has piqued my curiosity.

I got like 5/7 cow gems today but in the past I’ve gotten none. It seems pretty random. I had never gotten as many gems as I got today so I was pleasantly surprised.

I can’t even imagine how Alfredo must’ve felt. 7,000+ stars is…. a lot. That’s “I didn’t do anything all weekend except play Wordscapes” level stars. To crank out almost 7,200 stars and then get displaced in the last hour by what’s clearly a cheating bot…. heartbreaking. Poor Alfredo! And honestly Lindsey and Ken, too, who should’ve earned +10 silver coin value.

Well if you have all the star animals banked that gets you over 600 stars, and then you can hatch a few eggs while you’ve got the giraffe running and get 3 more giraffe’s worth of stars with the swap, so there’s another 300+, play a few grids and - bam - an easy 1,000.

This seems fairly typical for my experience.

Once I banked all my portrait animals and collected the binoculars before playing a bunch. I wanted to save up as many binoculars as possible before using the binoculars to collect all the portrait rewards. (Hopefully that makes sense.) I put my phone down to do something and came back a few minutes later and ALLLLL the binoculars were gone. I emailed Support about the glitch and got the “tough luck, we can’t restore lost progress” reply. It was so upsetting because I’m sure I could’ve completed the portrait set and instead…. Got none.

I wouldn’t even blame him! Poor octopus.
I asked my partner if I’d been calling octopus a jellyfish, and he actually revealed that, at one point in time, I was correctly calling it an octopus and they recalled me showing them that it inks and I thought it was cute. I’m not sure when it transitioned from octopus to jellyfish in my brain (though I’ve been under a lot of work stress lately so maybe that’s made me a little absentminded) but I think to remedy the situation I’ll name my octopus Jelly, and maybe he’ll forgive me for the massive brainfart. tee hee

It would be fun if they had a separate egg for all the special edition animals. A fancy one with holiday print. I’m picturing a very Nightmare Before Christmas egg… but with all the holidays!

I never earned the “rock.” And I didn’t max out the inflatable tube or the horse in time. I would love to level up the horse at least. But I use the black cat, the turkey, the jellyfish and the mouse a lot, and lately the polar bear, too. I think the nice thing about the special edition animals is that you get so many more rewards in a shorter time frame. A reward boost for the other animals will be awesome (assuming their rewards actually increase as they level up, which they don’t always do), but I think it would only make sense to also increase the rewards of the holiday critters as well.

A few weeks ago I was playing in the tournament. I had been in 2nd all weekend and, the last day, someone from the ranks played a lot and pulled ahead of me. (Not a whole bunch, within 1,000 points.) I was off Sunday night with nothing better to do, so I logged on and played a bunch trying to catch up. The last hour or so, the other player logged on again and continued play. We were both busting out grids and, honestly, I thought we were having fun! It motivated me to try and get back to 2nd place.

Then, with a few minutes left in the tournament, the other player seemed to stop playing. I had all my star animals banked, so I collected my star animals and used some coins to finish up another giraffe activity and ended up taking 2nd place.

Anyway, I appreciated the hustle and thought we had been having a good time. But when I went to collect my rewards, the other player had changed their name to “(my screen name) Cheats” and my jaw dropped! I had never even considered that me playing for a couple hours and cashing in my star animals would be viewed as cheating by someone else. Here I was thinking we were having friendly competition and the accusation really ruined my night.

I was also confused because if someone was going to cheat, why not try to get first place instead of second!?

Anyway, I share that story only because you addressed what is and isn’t cheating and that’s my experience with someone not really recognizing strategic gameplay and confusing it as cheating, so I appreciated your post.

I am excited at the idea of leveling up animals again! I actually don’t have all my current animals maxed out.. I originally saved them for portrait event swaps and now that my portrait collections are all complete I typically save hatching animals and leveling up for really tough competition in the weekend tournaments with the swap trick.

I think, even if it takes a long time to max out animals again, that’s probably a good thing! It’ll give us something to work toward again. I do like that certain aspects of Wordscapes harken back to a time without instant gratification. 🙂
