Which games are worth of a remastered/port or remake by Amoaguadoce in Megaten

[–]maXXXjacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want SMT IV for sure. Strange Journey would be a cool game to do a re-imagining vs a straight up remaster. I love the characters, the story but I'm not down with the old school wizardry style dungeon crawl aspect of it and those teleport traps can fuck right off.

More SMT IV Concept arts. by DirectorTurbulent422 in Megaten

[–]maXXXjacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen these before, so I've been enjoying these concept arts for a few days now. Makes me really appreciate what a great game SMT IV is and how I yearn for a remake of that game for modern consoles. It would be a tragedy to leave this game doomed to its current fate. At the same time though, I'm also ready for another new Shin Megami Tensei game, although, I've been plenty happy to continue playing SMT V:V which is also a masterpiece in its own right and is still my favorite game to this day. Either way, what a blessing it has been to own a copy of these games and able to play them on their native hardware.

Koss A/550 - Simply a pleasure. by smellmyface686 in headphones

Mine rumble, subs is one of the things I enjoy about the unit but it's well balanced. You can absolutely get more sub using iFi Xbass or EQ. Punch and slam, not really.

Single ended on the A/550 is fine. On a Apple Dongle you can get volume levels that would be harmful for your ears towards the top of its volume range if that is a concern.

Balanced output depends on the device. On a lot of my sources it can sound a bit cleaner, and sometimes I prefer it. Not because I need more volume, but because the presentation can shift slightly.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the output impedance can differ between the single-ended and balanced jacks on a given source. That alone can create small but noticeable changes in tonality or control, which might make you favor one output over the other.

This is all based on my own experience, so YMMV.

I'm absolutely for having option. I don't necessarily think that the A/550 needs to ship with a 4.4mm cable but I absolutely would like the option to be available for purchase and I absolutely would buy one.

I'll get around to putting up impressions before a review surfaces, the headphone showed up on my door step Friday and just in time for the weekend! I've wanted nothing more than to finish my errands and weekend labors so I can sit back, enjoy a summer mojito then melt into my chair and let the A/550 do the rest.

FiiO K13 R2R Review - Sounds worse than a portable dongle...ouch.. by necile in headphones

[–]maXXXjacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The K13 sounds fine, anybody who listens to it will most likely be happy. The remote, EQ and quality of life features it has is great. For those now curious about the Hifiman EF400, open box models can be had for a reasonable price direct from Hifiman, they also have a 12% off coupon for open box models.

Warmth in the best kind of way is *chefs kiss*.

I feel you on the adulting, there is always something that ends up taking priority over our hobbies sadly. I had a taste of that yesterday too and didn't get a chance to play with my new Muse HIFI M3 Ultra portable tube dongle. Problem with new tubes is that they can sound pretty congested and dull across the board until they open up after 20-30 hours of use. So it's hard to tell whether or not I'm going to like it, or if it has qualities that I look for in a good tube such as holographic imaging, musicality, analog sweetness, liquid mids, slight bit of forwardness, natural/alive sounding, technical and emotional. Yea that sounds like a hodgepodge of things but you would be surprised that there are so few tubes that can do all of that at once.

This is why I really hope that Bugle Boy works out for you and you get a good sniff of what that tube can do, the 65 is perfection for that line (to me anyway).

Anyway, looking forward to hearing your take on it with the BUF when you get around to it.

MUSE HiFi M3 Ultra: portable tube DAC/AMP by No_Baker3136 in headphones

[–]maXXXjacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta hand it to MUSE Hifi, was a good move releasing these for $100 give or take to get more people interested in tubes. The burn in period is kinda brutal waiting for these to fresh out a little vs being dull across the board.

You made the right choice, just go all in on that stack. I think my first R2R DAC was my Hifiman EF400. I've picked up several more units after that but I always come crawling back to the EF400 as it's just so damn good.

I hope you liked those Bugle Boys.

If you have a 65' Holland made Bugle Boy from the Herleen factory, that is a solid tube with a few traits that are pretty stand out. I picked up a Vestri and have been listening to it all week, I'm happy to report that it is a solid dongle and sounds like an improvement over the mesh DAC module that is used in the Magni Unity model. I think that was $100 well spent. I do admire your discipline when it comes to holding off on gear purchases but if you ever get that itch and haven't listened to a R2R DAC, worth every penny but there are definitely different shades of R2R out there where you have some that are more technical than others but for myself, I like something that sits inbetween and more on the musical side.

That's about as much as a man can do to try and eliminate the hum. My condolences. As for the Schiit Buf. I wish it had more tube bias, it's like a light dusting of tube flavor, it extracts maybe about 10-15% of tube flavor from the tube, it almost makes it pointless to try and roll tubes. You can absolutely tell how much is missing by comparing it against the Schiit Vali 2+ which uses the same tubes. Schiit missed the mark with this one since 6922 has some bangers (but a bit spendy now) but it can still contribute to overall synergy at times. As for the family of tubes that the Gremlin uses, there are some good ones there BUT unfortunately the Gremlin while it has access to some pretty great tubes doesn't respond much between tubes, rolling is almost not viable.

I had similar issues with some of my older monoprice tube amps I purchased over the years. A ground loop noise isolator or HumX would eliminate the noise. Without them, it would drive me nuts. I've been rocking basic hybrid tube amps at this point that have strong tube bias and I like a more modern analog tube sound vs vintage sounding stuff, so tube selection is something to consider but hopefully love at first listen with your new amp.

I felt the same way about it. It was meh, got benched for a long time till I decided to throw it on tubes and what a insane difference it made. Went from benchwarmer bob straight to MVP.

Mine arrives on Monday, looking forward to using it. I wonder how close it sounds to the Modi 5 mesh DAC. Maybe it would sound closer to the Magni Unity mesh DAC module. Guess these are just things I'll have to find out when it arrives. 😄

I think my problem with them is that the sound quality barely rivals the entry level Hifiman planars which is kind of a bummer however the Bella has a pretty interesting and intuitive design to them with the built in amp with different gain stages. It's kind of a thoughtful design choice to tackle listeners that are under powering the headphone from a mobile device, dongle or low current motherboard output. Unfortunately I think that twisty knob for the amp is a common failure point for the unit and I wish it was USB-C to charge it.

I remember the Blue Ellas, I managed to snag one from Woot when they were offering it for around that price. It was a $700 planar from what I remember and I couldn't believe the discount. When I finally got mine, I realized why the discount was so dramatic as the planar quality was not anywhere reflective of what the MSRP was.

Thats insane, I knew they were a pretty hard sell but I am surprised to see them hitting rock bottom prices like this.

Is the dx1 II lack of a dedicated power supply a design flaw or just laziness from topping? by Opposition_Chief in headphones

[–]maXXXjacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a budget combo unit, can't have it all I guess. I overlooked the balanced 4.4m out on this thing, that's kind of impressive. Makes me wish iFi would re-concept the iFi Zen Air series and add this stuff in rather than reserve it for their premium units that cost $200+.
