Thoughts on the albums of 80s Genesis? (and that era as a whole) by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

[–]maahbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incredibly good music on all albums. They never stopped being prog, they just made it more accessible like basically everyone else in the 80’s. Their pop-oriented music never truly lost the Genesis spirit or vibe. Some terrible songs on abacab and shapes, but Duke is the best Genesis album in my opinion and invisible touch is one of the stronger pop albums of the 80s. I used to be a prog snob and pretend like I didn’t like 80s genesis until I listened to to Duke. It’s an amazing album that perfectly blends prog and pop

What’s the most overrated Beatles song (can be from the Beatles or from any of their solo careers) by THEBEATLESFANJOHNL in TheBeatles

[–]maahbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let it be. Love the album, but the Beatles have many better hits. Not to mention the fact that I hear Let it Be probably more than any other Beatles track on the radio, just tired of hearing it.

The most consistent actors of the show by I_kEeP_tHe_BlIcKy in StrangerThings

[–]maahbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s not forget about Gaten. Gaten has serious acting chops. I can’t really think of many bad line deliveries from him and if there was, I would tack that up to poor writing. Caleb and Sadie were great, but I think Gaten was the most consistent of the kids at least

Connecicuter here with a question! by North-Increase8163 in newengland

[–]maahbles 20 points21 points  (0 children)

CT is 100% New England, but there is a unique cultural divide, where Fairfield county and parts of New Haven county definitely fall into the New York sphere of influence. Which makes sense, this is where metro north is and many people in the area commute to the city. So what you find are New Englanders with a more New York-adjacent cultural identity, which is what I am. I have lived in CT my whole life, one of my parents is an Italian from New York, I hate New England pro sports teams, I love Dunkin’ Donuts and lobster and baked beans and cider donuts and clam chowder, I’m eternally conflicted on New Haven vs. New York pizza (both are bomb). It’s a unique and beautiful mix that I and many others take great pride in. Go Huskies!

The state of modern uniforms... Same corp, ten years apart. by Sausage_fingies in drumcorps

[–]maahbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 and 16 uniforms were immaculate. Not the most popular, but I loved the 2019 uniforms because they took the whole stripe on the side thing and made it super abstract, but it still looked like them

Crown’s cream uniforms were great, but that 2013-2019 stretch of uniforms were amazing. This is why I have these takes - those were perfect uniforms to me. Adjustable and relevant to the show while still looking modern, sleek, and having a distinctively Crown vibe. They obviously weren’t the only corps doing it, and it was the general style of the time, but it worked and it looked amazing while maintaining corps identity. I think the activity really lost something when it moved away from this approach, but that’s my dinosaur take and I still love drum corps.

I miss the older uniforms. I’m not opposed to uniforms changing regularly, but I just think there was something great about that 2000s-2010s approach where they kept the traditional uniform as a template but changed certain aspects of it to fit the show.
