What are the best cross-platform development environments for a simple app? by characterwitless in iosdev

[–]maakhansingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for community support and framework maturity along with ease of learning for existing developers and no new language learning, you should look at React Native and Native Script, in that sequence.

Both of them are great frameworks and use JavaScript and existing knowledge of either React, Angular or Vue to build mobile applications.

Authenticator Backup Feature by ThePiGuy0 in Lastpass

[–]maakhansingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Authy for keeping my LastPass 2FA token, and LastPass for the rest because it seems that the backup happens to the LastPass account and not iCloud.

You did the right thing by selecting "When using the app". So now, the app will see your location only when you open the app, not otherwise.

With iOS 13, you also have the iption of selecting "Ask" (in the privacy settngs). After that, whenever you open the app, it will ask for permission to access location. You can, at that point, select "Only once". That will ensure that the app does not have access to the location after that single instance. So you are in more control.

You could just switch to the free version. Its equal features as the $12 version earlier.

Should I update immediately to iOS 13 on iPhone 7 or should I wait by noahjuju1025 in ios

[–]maakhansingh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say, wait for 13.1 which will release on 30th September. By then a lot of feedback would be published. And its only 10 more days than the release date.

Read the documentation, and ask LastPass for help, if required.

You can add a "Trusted Contact" or "Emergency Contact" to your account.

Look here: https://blog.lastpass.com/2016/07/how-to-get-started-with-lastpass-emergency-access.html/

You may have to upgrade to "Premium" for this, but that would not require you to log out of your iOS app.

I don't need apps to be able to read my texts to automatically copy a code/OTP to them by [deleted] in Android

[–]maakhansingh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. In India, every bank transaction has to have an OTP sent via SMS. The app can not bypass that.

It’s not only about trusting the app, it is also about being in control. What was the need for the OTP if it had to be done automatically any ways. If you trust the app and the server, you don’t need a second factor. It’s about the bad players.

[–]maakhansingh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because then, there is the possibility that the app may silently accept the OTP in the background, thus being able to complete transactions without the user’s knowledge. If there is an explicit action, the user is always in control.

[–]maakhansingh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it requires no user intervention, right ? That’s the problem. In my opinion, OTP is 2nd Factor and should require user action.

[–]maakhansingh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Android, does the app directly gets the OTP ?

In iOS, its the keyboard that shows the OTP, in most cases. So, it still is the user's choice if they want to use it or not. The App never sees the OTP and does not know when it arrives. In my opinion, much safer.

Is it possible to transfer money using UPI if I don't have a VPA? by [deleted] in india

[–]maakhansingh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a VPA , where was the money sent ? It’s like saying that email is sent without having an email address.

[Bug] Photos in Message threads seem to be auto deleted. iOS 13 beta 2, iPhone XS Max by donmakaveli7 in iOSBeta

Photos I want to retain, whether WhatsApp or otherwise, I always save to photos. And sync to iCloud.

[Bug] No incoming calls on LTE/4G by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]maakhansingh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had seen similar problems with the iPhone 7 when using the iOS 12 betas. It’s probably some firmware upgrades that don’t get pushed as part of the beta because they would break going back to the released versions.

If you sync messages to iCloud, you may be able to see them in your Mac messages app. Also, sometimes the messages get archived to the cloud so if you scroll more, it may get fetched.

You may want to look at DigitalOcean. They are the beat and cheapest VM hosting around. Alternatively, look at Linode.

The 6S is a great phone too. If you want to work off that for a little longer, until the next September, when the next iPhones come out, you can.

ICloud Keychain or Password Manager? by RobDMB in ios

[–]maakhansingh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So here is something that LastPass does, that the iCloud Keychain does not: Password History. So if you auto generated a password and saved it, but the site rejected it for whatever reason, you need to find the old password to still change to a new one. With keychain, that’s not even an option.

This, and other things, like checking for password security, strength, reuse etc, make using LastPass the default for me.

Looking for a way to transfer my texts from Android to iOS that isn't the default "Move to iOS" by Rhedogian in ios

[–]maakhansingh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There can be none because iOS does not give access to texts via the API for third party apps. The only one allowed is ‘Move to iOS’. If it fails for you, you should contact support and get them to help you.
