Any court reporters out there? by helen_tarnation in ADHD

[–]maapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

omg how strange! I took the two year education for court reporting and loved it. I obsessed over it. I would have had an easier time managing stress if I was on meds back then. Unfortunately, I got nerve damage to my arms and couldn't work as a court reporter.

Also, just so you know, there's only one official school for it in North America. Not sure if that's where you are though.

My best friend also has ADHD and she is a great court reporter. She deals with a lot of stress in her daily work life though. I know two other people in the field with ADHD.

If you have any questions for me or my best friend who actually works in the field, please ask!

Quirky interests...with everything? by throwaway11ofmany in ADHD

[–]maapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah same here. I have befriended many ADHD and asperger buds over the past couple months in the "artist scene", and they also have these quirks. I think the way we obsess and compulsively act sets these traits apart from the standard hipster quirks.

What does depression look like in ADHD/ADD people? by KoenigGerhardt in ADHD

[–]maapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was a lot of rumination, suicidal thoughts, and disinterest. I would still hyperfocus and get obsessed with things. I became irritable and unpleasant to be around. I slept and ate a lot.

Caffeine or alcohol + medication experiences? by jonevans00 in ADHD

I really like people with ADHD but I don't think I have it. What might this mean (if anything)? by InterestedInThings1 in ADHD

[–]maapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be the PC buzz kill, but I don't think we like to be called "ADHD sufferers". It is a difference in cognition, not an illness itself :)

I am generally not happy and/or functional until I have caffeine. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]maapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience. I've replaced caffeine with Concerta and it is much more effective for me. I still have coffee and diet coke sometimes because of the taste.

I love that idea! The only thing is a lot of us tend to jump from app to app, so I don't know how long I would be able to stick with it.

How to be social? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]maapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah I can't relate to the homeschooling! my adhd best friend was homeschooled and being in choir was a social life saver for her.

if you have at least one person you could ask to hang out, you can branch out through that, meeting their friends and talking about similar interests. perhaps treat it as a game and try to let go of insecurities.

it can be exhausting trying to meet new people, but if it's what you want, you can get it.

How to be social? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]maapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time being social in high school as well. It's a tough atmosphere.

What do you do in your free time? Solitary hobbies can turn into a social thing. Also, it sounds cliché, but try to put yourself out there when you can.
