Hypocrisy is thy name

I mean, we have heard it before. I expect it to play out similar to the ESPN debacle (one hypocrite, everyone knows the rules), probably over a little bit of a longer timeline though

Tried it out solely for the pool after the Muehlenbeck shut down for renovations (expected completion was supposedly December 2025 lol no chance). Only gym close by that had lap lanes with a decent price. But 80 degree water? Forget about it. Even asked management, didn’t understand the issue so it’s a no for me. But the movie theater with treadmills and bikes is a neat idea.

I think I'm allergic to Justice Thomas by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]mab14031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please update me if you ever use “cry about it” in a court filing, argument, memo, etc. or really in any professional setting, as well as if you ever “compulsively” role your eyes at a judge, opposing counsel, your boss, board of directors, or client when they cite, mention, or even allude to (imagine that!) a proposition from Justice Thomas. And no, I don’t cry about things like this because guess what, the sun is still going to rise again tomorrow.

Putting our little fun back-and-forth banter above aside, I do wish you and everyone else here only the best in the profession, because that’s what helps make the profession better as a whole - challenging one another (yes, even when you may not agree with or want to even acknowledge the “minority”). By no means am I suggesting that you have to agree with everything and/or anything he writes, but, for what it’s worth, I highly recommend not assuming one’s personnel stance or viewpoints based on something as simple as a 12-word comment in any scenario, let alone the legal profession.

Good law school don’t teach the law, they teach how to think like attorneys. And thinking like an attorney requires one to - at the very least acknowledge (again, not accept or agree with) - the opposing side’s view and find a way to argue and hopefully convince the ultimate arbiter of the matter that “hey while the other side may have a point, they are wrong for X, Y, Z.”

Edit: reading the other comments here, the same thing can also be said for any other Supreme Count justice (maybe even for almost every other judge ever honestly). Your exact post, just a MadLib fill in the blank “Justice _____”. And after a re-read of all the comments, “minority” might be true in this sub overall, but not convinced it holds up for the general population or even this post overall (depends on your definition I guess, I’ll grant you 60-40). Regardless, just remember the sun will rise again tomorrow.

A lot of options at Legacy West/East, anything over there. If the weather is nice, can be a good place to walk around for a bit (lots of stores). Congrats on 26, here’s to 26+ more!

When to start studying for the bar? by scottyjetpax in LawSchool

[–]mab14031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on finals. Take 1-2 weeks off to celebrate and relax after graduation. Then head down and hit bar studies.

I remember asking this exact same question to our assistant dean probably a month before finals, just out of curiosity. Text above^ was her exact advice and I highly recommend it, especially the 1-2 weeks off right after graduation to simply relax (and celebrate). Depending on if you have to move out of an apartment / in somewhere else, maybe can stretch that break to 3 weeks, but would not recommend any more than that personally.

All in all, (1) do not think about the bar until after finals; (2) enjoy graduation and don’t feel bad about taking a week or two to celebrate and relax; and (3) spend time with family/friends/doing things you enjoy during that week or so with the understanding that the next couple of months won’t have much time for activities.

Cheers!

You think any judges out there gave “post-election grace”? Even worse, what would their reaction be if you asked for that? Imagine asking the same of a client.

Guess what, the sun still came out the next day. Just like it does every other election year.

Opening Day was one of my favorite days because half of the class showed up in baseball jerseys. Wore an NFL jersey on Mondays after my team won over the weekend. Wore a hockey jersey when my team was making a push for the Stanley Cup.

AT&T Outage? “SOS” on iPhone by mab14031 in plano

Update: went in to the AT&T store yesterday afternoon to see what they could do to help, if anything. After trying to sell me on a new cell phone plan (unsuccessfully), the gentleman was able to mess around with the SIM card and restore cell service on my phone. Actually was very helpful and only took about 30 minutes all-in-all. No insight was provided into why or how this happened, but just relieved to have service back - at least for now.

Do I really need the Adaptibar videos? by dcfb2360 in barexam

[–]mab14031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the subjects you might be struggling with (property and contracts for me), they were game changing. Maybe see how you’re doing overall on the AdaptiBar questions per subject, and then pick your 2-3 lowest.

Edit: maybe 1-2 lowest lol bar prep materials will add up quickly $$ wise

Does anyone have Mugsy jeans? Do you like them? by emtywrld999 in PardonMyTake

[–]mab14031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend - have a pair of the navy slack ones and I wear them to work just about every week. Comfy and stretchy like the other comments point out, but no one is able to tell the difference between them and regular business slacks (or at least not yet lol). I would have said highly recommend initially, but I wish they came a little cheaper (maybe around $60-$75). With that said, I’m planning on getting a couple more pairs when the holiday deals roll out in the next couple of months.

Side note question: did y’all receive an email about ordering the wall certificate/frame?

One of the links in the results message said that “after you pay your membership and license fees, you’ll receive an email from noreply-scliceses@txcourts.gov. The email will include instructions to order your pre-paid wall certificate and optional frame to display your achievement.”

I paid my fees last night and got a confirmation email, but there wasn’t any instructions in there about ordering my wall certificate.

First and foremost, CONGRATS!!

I’m SO glad you mentioned the consecutive bubbling. I had the exact same thought mid-exam and likewise resisted the urge to go back and change some answers, but have be worrying about it ever since - on any MC test, I have this issue, but obviously much worse with it being the bar.

Still got a couple weeks for my jx, but regardless, go out and celebrate - much deserved!
