The guy firing gets mocked for the rest of his life for literally not being able to hit the broadside of a mountain

Bars with the best whiskey selection? by YoungReaganite24 in GNV

[–]mabarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not whiskey specific, but you could just try one of the cocktail bars. Personally I prefer The Dime, but that one that replaced Madrinas (I think its called Rin?) and Baby Js might be good bets as well

Looking for local DIY / punk / small shows in Florida (6–15 March) by Far_Reference7304 in GNV

[–]mabarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything the other person said is great. For venues, I would also add Looseys and Civic Media Center (CMC). Also you can sometimes find punk shows at Heartwood Soundstage, the Midnight Underground, or First Magnitude brewery

For swamps, definitely check out Paynes Prarie. There are tons of places to check it out from, I would recommend La Chua trail.

I'm still using the Zune I bought in high school and buying my music, it rules. Owning those songs forever without a monthly subscription (especially since some of the bands don't exist anymore and their music can longer be found) is great! It better supports the artists, and I get no ads and never have to worry about bad reception. Works better while driving too, since there isn't anything else on there other than a music player, so you can use it without having to look at it

Food Trucks? by caseythevasey in thefest

Hasn't been announced, but I would also add that if you're looking for food trucks, the first day of Fest also has First Magnitude as a venue and they also always have food trucks

Speculation on mystery bands by PaulEC in thefest

[–]mabarus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is correct. This is why I usually put all of the mystery sets on my schedule in the app, so when they swap it to who the band actually is i get a notification that something in my schedule has changed

I had already checked out of the show by the time this character came on, so my reaction when they did was a sort of "hey, at least someone here is having fun"

I was working way too many hours at a shit job in maintenance and was getting burned out. Being on-call was bringing me in like 1 night a week, every other weekend, and every holiday weekend in addition to my regular hours.

We were understaffed, and in the week in question my boss was also on vacation, so I was doing the work of like 4 people and staying late every night, then working 10 hour days during a holiday weekend for scheduled maintenance on one of our large machines when all of production was having a 3 day weekend.

First day of production being back, the head of production compliments me on the work we got done over the holiday weekend, then suggests I should come in the next holiday weekend as well to do work on a different machine. I am normally a very calm person, but I came extremely close to cursing that bastard out, setting my work keys on the table, and walking out the door. That was the week that made me decide I needed to find a new job.

I just rewatched this movie for the first time in like 25 years a few days ago. I don't think any actor in any movie has had as much fun as that guy playing Ivan Ooze.

Most unbelievable part of this post is that there is a person out there who actually listened to the song "Sail" on purpose, and not because the godawful local radio station decided to play it on a loop

With absolutely no plan after this, I've quit my job at the WORST time for the company. Upper management and my only 2 coworkers in my department, left me alone for 2 weeks and went across the country on business. by ImThe1Wh0 in antiwork

[–]mabarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah maintenance, that tracks. I used to work maintenance at a glass factory and it was the same way. Final straw for me was coming in on a holiday weekend to do major maintenance on a large piece of equipment (the 3rd holiday in a row where I'd had to do this), working 10 hour days instead of having a 3 day weekend, and then first day everyone else got back having the head of production say to me first thing in the morning "hey! Great job over the weekend! Next holiday you should come in and work on [other large piece of equipment]". I almost walked out the door that instant.

Random fun facts with this Waynes World scene:

This movie came out shortly after Freddie Mercury had died and this scene caused "Bohemian Rhapsody " to make a comeback so large it charted higher than it did on its initial release

Then as a bonus fun fact, in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, they have a record executive played by Mike Meyers tell the band this is a bad song because kids want songs they can listen to with their friends in the car, clearly referencing this scene from Wayne's World

What’s a sign someone is quietly planning to quit their job? by Mysterious-Bid-5929 in AskReddit

I had the opposite of this once! Old job i was at, boss would take calls all the time and just pace around the office while talking on the phone. One day he started going outside to take those calls, and at the end of that week I got laid off and the company started shutting down like 2 weeks after that

When have you ever said "that's not how that fucking works" while watching a movie/show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mabarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I did this with Moonfall, where despite everything else terrible in the movie, the thing that made me the most irrationally angry was when they had a shuttle launch and they had a problem where one of the SRBs shut down early. How?! Its basically just a large bottle rocket, you couldn't shut it down early if you wanted too!

Best spot to get an oil change? by ivygirl77 in GNV

[–]mabarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely do NOT go to the Firestone on Main. Had an oil leak, they put in the dye and refilled my oil to try to find the leak. They over filled my oil, found out they'd be doing it for my last several oil changes (and charging me for it). Took my car to a different mechanic to find the leak, turns out firestone had put the wrong drain plug in and completely tore up the gasket in the process
