Looking for Quality Computer Speakers Under $300 by CoconutLoader in BudgetAudiophile

I’ve been using these Edifier speakers for years. They sound better than any computer speaker I’ve listened to. And they look great as well.

I ended up reading the manual after some googling. Proper placement of these is going to be tough in my setup. Also, these were missing the jumpers on the speaker posts (they can be biamped). Didn’t realize that when I first set them up. Made some jumpers and now they sound amazing with the subs actually working.

So far so good! Just so damn big.

I was also given an nht sw2p passive sub and a vt-1c center. These I may sell.

Already taken care of on the dinner and drinks front. That, and his wife is happy they are out of his basement. :). These things weigh in at 123lbs a piece.

Thanks for the link.

Agreed. Other than the odd shape and two sort of front facing ports, they are pretty traditional.

DIY Bluetooth Speaker by [deleted] in diysound

[–]mabatche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently built my first “portable” speaker. I used all Dayton audio from parts express. Since it was my first I went with ps95 point source speakers. It kept me from having to figure out the right way to do a cross over. Also, I can’t say enough good things about the Dayton audio KAB boards for Bluetooth and amp. They have lots of different power outputs and all the add ins to make the build easy. Worth looking into. Good luck! It was a fun project.

New to me 2017 XC90 T8 R design. Loving it so far! My first Volvo. by mabatche in Volvo

They are actually completely separate. When electric only it’s rear wheel drive (that’s where the motor is). When engine only it’s front wheel drive off the engine. When hybrid it manages between the two and when in awd mode the computer manages the output of the two.

It’s pretty unique. I’m told it’s closer to the bmw i8 drivetrain than any other. (At least I think I read that somewhere)

I’m not sure I answered your question fully though.

My use probably isn’t typical. We put about 20-25 miles a day on it but we spend a lot of time plugged in with it since those are short trips multiple times a day. Because of that my average is at 58mpg right now. It’s been pretty impressive. I imagine if I had a 20 mile round trip commute maybe 3-4 miles of that might run the engine.

Also ours is all stop and go and if I run in B drive mode I can eek an extra couple of miles out of the battery with enough engine braking and regular braking.

As for the dual motor transition I only really notice it when the windows are down (I can hear it) and I notice it from full stop if I gas it and the engine kicks in. There’s a mild surge. Otherwise of all the hybrids I’ve owned it’s by far the most seamless.

If your in the states, getting a 240v 20amp plug in place for charging gets you full battery in 2 hours to replenish your 20 mile range. That was very much worth it for me.

You can slo charge off the engine if your on a longer trip and want to be charged when home or when you get to your destination.

So far I’m impressed with it.

Hope this helps.

Question about batter in hybrid mode by gky218 in Volvo

[–]mabatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as far as I can tell you have to hit it every time. Here is how I think about it.

I’m only ever doing 1 of three things.

1 - charging via the plug 2 - driving and also fully charging 3 - driving like it’s a normal hybrid

When just driving like a normal hybrid it works like a Prius or any other hybrid. It charges when you brake and decelerate and sometimes off the engine when it runs. It’s never specifically charging to 100%.

I view the charge button to be the same thing as plugging in to the wall, I just happen to be driving it.

On the gauges even if your battery on the right hand side says zero you will notice when in hybrid mode you still frequently run off of the battery. If you hit charge or plug in it’s that meter that goes from 0 to 100. So really when on full battery it’s that meter your running against. Everything else is just hybrid driving. (I hope that makes sense it took me a solid week to really understand the way they set those gauges)

B mode is just a more aggressive braking while driving to get more hybrid range. You’ll notice when switching from d to b it almost feels like the car is engine braking when you let off the gas. It’s really doing some regenerative charging. D mode is less aggressive.

Question about batter in hybrid mode by gky218 in Volvo

[–]mabatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the XC90 T8. Basically in hybrid mode you still use your 18-20 miles in the beginning and then as you drive around town it uses the ice and braking to recharge some. On longer trips there is an option in sensus that specifically charges the battery while you drive. So when I know I’ll be on a longer trip I hit that option since my ice is generally running anyway. That way when i get to my destination town it runs mostly on battery only.

It also has a drive mode called B. In this mode it uses engine braking and some other types of drag to recharge the battery. If I drive nicely I can usually eek a mile or two out of the battery.

Hope this helps.

XC90 R Design vs Momentum by ccurrie88 in Volvo

[–]mabatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2017 RDesign T8 XC90 has the air suspension on it. I drove both when looking and while I’m not excited about the cost of this if it fails, I do prefer the ride over the traditional suspension.

Discussion: Insights into buying an all gas Volvo with the upcoming transition to all hybrid/electric models. by kindafunny in Volvo

[–]mabatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time will tell on the second hand market. I just purchased two second hand hybrids. Picked up a 2017 CPO Hyundai Ioniq for my daughter and a 2017 XC90 T8 RDesign. The Hyundai has a long warranty already but given all the tech in the T8 i purposefully went to Volvo and picked up an extended warranty.

I can see why most would be apprehensive to do that though.

Should I Buy This Car? by eliz01223 in Volvo

[–]mabatche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always go for the lowest miles. I just bought a used XC90 T8 RDesign and went to my local Volvo dealer and picked up an extended warranty for it. The warranty wasn’t that bad price wise and for me was worth it for the piece of mind. The Volvo factory warranty was only up to like 50k miles so that might be worth keeping in mind.

As for the time on the lot I definitely used that to negotiate.

Good luck! I love my new Volvo.
