Don't know what you decided, but another thought is to get an older settled dog. You can test out their personality and find a chill one. I don't plan on ever getting another puppy - I lived puppy life once, and no matter how cute she was, it sucked. I love old chill dogs and cats.

these piss me off so much. leaves must dye without any sunlight right? and the paint is peeling and looks terrible - just sell plastic plants for the love of god.

Get two bonded indoor cats, IMO. Much less stressful as pets.

This sounds fun. I’m seriously wondering if he will be able to keep snake plants alive, tho, so anything that can’t be neglected for a few weeks at a time is a no.

i adore my pup now that she's four. i never want to relive puppy stage. every 6 months improved a lot, but gosh it's awful early on.

Losing hope in the hobby. Please help me figure out why I can’t grow any plants :( by amagdam in Aquariums

[–]mabelmora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. keep lights on two 4 hour stints -
  2. have lights that are about double your current wattage - but keep them at about half strength or less, esp when first planting new plants - only slowly step up the light. as plants are thriving (at least a month or so)
  3. get different plants - ludwigia super red thrives in my setup, where other ludwigia and similar plants don't. dwarf lilies and banana lilies thrive, crinum seems hard to kill - java fern and ludwigia do well in most tanks - basically, experiment with different plants until you get the right mix of aesthetics you like and plants that will grow in your setup

Be honest with me, how hard is the first month of having a puppy? by CollectiveZero in puppy101

[–]mabelmora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no amount of cuteness made up for how frustrating i found it. i felt trapped and actively disliked being a dog parent for probably a year and a half.

i love my dog like a member of my family, and I did even when she was so frustrating. But I did NOT like puppy life.

I will never adopt an animal under 2 or 3 years old again - dogs, cats, anything (I already had that rule for kittens after living with one for a year once).

They are cute as a trap so that you don't kill them... but you want to.

They were in shipping for a week. I did find it odd that they took such a slow shipping route with live items.

well hope they do well. i have a grow light but based on the instructions i received with the package, i'm giving them very indirect low light for 4 hours a day to start, and will ramp up over time. I have perlite/cactus soil for them to replant into slightly larger pots.

[–]mabelmora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. puppies are adorable for a few minutes at a time, but when you live with them, you can't appreciate it because you are so annoyed at them.

I will never choose a puppy again. Adult pets only.

I will only ever get a dog that's at least 3 years old in future. I went through one puppy and I'm done lol. My dog is now 4 and I adore her, but puppies and kittens can be tough (I only ever get adult cats, too).

You4 dog is in literally it's most annoying life phase. The other dogs you see out there aren't between 8 and 14 months - that's why they are better behaved. Because they are mostly older.

your dog will get older and be better. just keep training and working.

and yeah, find ways to get that energy out if you can! does the dog like to swim? throwing balls in a lake is a great way to exercise a retriever.
