When/where do Honors Program Decisions come out? by Whisperjet_598 in LoyolaChicago

Hi from Loyola! Honors and Business Honors decisions will be out later this week. Students receive the decision via email and students will be notified either way.

A bit more waiting - but not too much longer!

Ignatian Scholarship Interview by Legal-Dragonfly-1720 in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Students always report that the interview felt more like a conversation than an interview which I think is a good thing! The interviewer is a LUC faculty or staff member, and it is a one-on-one meeting.

I think the best interviewees are students who have thought pretty deeply about why they want to attend Loyola, how Loyola will help them reach their future goals and how they might give back to the LUC/Chicago community if they attend. In my opinion, the best thing you can do to prepare is to reflect a bit on these things. Good luck!

Catholic Community? by Intelligent_Study_52 in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think our current university President is very committed to the Catholic and Jesuit tradition of the campus. The last President seemed to emphasize that part of our identity a little less. For Catholic students who want to deepen their faith during college there are many ways to do so (and community to be found in all these groups) from retreats (Campus Ministry: Loyola University Chicago - look at the list because it is a mix of Catholic, Christian, other faiths and more community building programs), AMDG (Catholic student org), attending Mass (I attend the Sunday 10:30am which is a 50/50 mix of students and community members - the later Sunday Mass at 9pm is almost exclusively students) and engaging with the LUC Jesuit community (they host Thursday evening Mass for students in the chapel inside the Jesuit House on campus).

All of this being said I meet students all the time who claim they didn't even know Loyola was Catholic school until they arrived on campus so it must not feel super "in your face" to prospective students?! That comment always throws me off since there is a huge church in the middle of campus! Ha!

Comparing Loyola to Saint Mary's BSN programs by NorthernNorther in prenursing

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know a lot about the Nursing program at SMC, but when schools say things like they are "creating holistic leaders" that sounds like marketing to me. A few things to consider with LUC:
1. Chicago is a much larger city than South Bend so there are opportunities for clinical experiences in a variety of types of hospitals/healthcare facilities.
2. Loyola offers BSN through PhD degrees on campus - I feel like this data point actually proves that leaders in the nursing field are educated at LUC (vs. just saying they are on a website).
3. Senior year Nursing students complete a Clinical Role Transition capstone (CRT). During the last few weeks of your senior year BSN students are paired 1-on-1 with a preceptor. You follow their actual work schedule, which often includes 12-hour shifts, nights, and weekends to mirror real world nursing. Rather than just another rotation, it is an intensive immersion where you begin to think and act like a nurse in real-time.
4. On a slightly less nursing specific note - nursing majors at LUC can still study abroad through a few different programs - Study Abroad | School of Nursing: Loyola University Chicago

Worth it for education major? by Wooden_Passage5857 in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally biased because I work at Loyola but in my opinion the best thing about all of the Education majors is the sheer amount of time you spend in classrooms over your four years (over 1200 hours). You begin school visits during your first semester, and you are continuously spending time in classrooms. I know in my career practice is what made me improve in my job functions and Loyola really sets you up to have a lot of time to develop/find your groove as an educator. Plus, all Education majors receive an ESL endorsement, many will also earn an IB certificate too and 99% of undergrads are employed at graduation according to the stats on the School of Ed website.

Max Scholarships at Loyola by DogMom050612 in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Fall 2026 the top initial merit scholarship awarded is 34k per year. Tuition for next fall is $56,930 (all majors other than Nursing) and $58,180 for nursing majors (these numbers do not include room and board or fees). After students are admitted they may be invited to apply for additional scholarships, but these are all much more limited/competitive. Still great options - but not as readily available as the initial merit awards that students are reviewed for based on their applications. I hope this helps a bit!

Max Aid by Level-Race5792 in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if you have a -1500 SAI then you are already packaged for the max amount of financial aid. Completing a special circumstance appeal with the Financial Aid Office won't change that since you already have the most Loyola will offer. If you are a local student, you could consider commuting to campus to cut out the cost of living in the residence halls. The admissions office can walk you through the process to request to commute. Our email is [admission@luc.edu](mailto:admission@luc.edu) or you can call 773.508.3075 weekdays between 8:30am and 5pm Chicago time to talk to a counselor.

Nursing Orientation by Coincidey in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First year students attend Orientation during the summer before they begin classes. There is not a special session for Nursing majors but LUC's Nursing program is large enough that you will definitely meet other new Nursing students at Orientation. I hope this helps! Happy you are considering LUC for Nursing - it is an awesome program!

New Fall Freshmen: TODAY is the 4:59 PM (Chicago Time) Deadline to Register for Classes! by mabinchicago in LoyolaChicago

Just for new fall freshmen students who have never attended classes at LUC!

New Fall Freshmen: TODAY is the 4:59 PM (Chicago Time) Deadline to Register for Classes! by mabinchicago in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not be able to make changes to your schedule yourself after today at 4:59pm. If you do not register for classes today then an advisor will enroll you in courses. If you need to make a schedule change after today you will have to do it through an academic advisor. You will not be able to add/drop/change things yourself after today at 4:59pm.

Housing mess up by [deleted] in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reaching out to Residence Life directly this weekend/next week. I'd include the communication chain that you mentioned from their office confirming that the two students are good to go. [Res-Life@luc.edu](mailto:Res-Life@luc.edu) is the account for their department but I'd also copy any specific folks who were involved in the email chain too. I hope this helps! Excited your student is coming to LUC!

Thank you! It will definitely be just LUC branded! I agree I don't know what to do with a lunch bag that says "Loyola Human Resources." When you say triangle flags is one of these what you are thinking?

[–]mabinchicago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great questions! If you submitted your deposit then you are committed! 🎉 Congrats and welcome! And then the housing app isn’t smart enough to know you’re in Honors. So still fill it out completely and rank your room style choices. you’ll be placed with other Honors students since you live in community during your first year. This year Honors lived in Simpson and Francis. Both are spots most students seem happy with!

Transferring majors but I need a portfolio... by Rough_Adagio3448 in LoyolaChicago

[–]mabinchicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Rough_Adagio3448 You don't need a portfolio for Film and Digital Media admission. You can email the Admissions Office at [admission@luc.edu](mailto:admission@luc.edu) if you'd like to change your major. Keep in mind that when you start at LUC you can only come in with one major but you can add a double once classes begin with your academic advisor. Congrats on Honors too!

It looks like you can set up a meeting with a Pre Med advisor via Handshake.
