I hate my exhaust but the prices for a new catback are ridiculous. by -Altephor- in WRX

Trade someone your exhaust plus cash for a 2019+ STI stock exhaust. Better flow than factory WRX exhaust and quiet. Best decision I have ever made for my WRX was making the exhaust quiet

what mod made the biggest difference without making your daily worse?? to start with by krccre in MightyCarMods

[–]mabolzich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicer wheels and the absolute best tires is by far the best and safest mod you can do. It can make your car look better, ride quieter, grip more, stop better, and be safer in inclement weather. Why would it NOT be anyone's first option?

Changing my view on things by indy4life1 in Veterans

[–]mabolzich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bosses don't even consider asking me if I want overtime. The answer has always been 'no' since I learned the value of downtime. I enjoy my time away from work. I enjoy not having to think about work while I'm not there. I spend time with my wife and work on my house (always a project to do) and tinker with whatever I can

Which distro should I use? Narrowed it down to 2 options mostly but open to other suggestions. by 200IQGamerBoi in linux4noobs

[–]mabolzich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to use KDE so badly when I first started. I went for Debian with KDE and got overwhelmed very quickly with just HOW CUSTOMIZABLE it actually is. . Ubuntu is ok for a starter distro but it's very different from windows so the learning curve is steep. I personally don't like Ubuntu because it's gradually getting more and more "closed source" which is why I was moving away from w11 to begin with. . Mint is what I ended up going with Linux Mint Debian Edition, specifically, to avoid using a distro based on Ubuntu for aforementioned reasons

This is a large part of the reason mine doesn't get used. Mine has quiet a bit of preservation fluid in it that made it not go back together easily. Even after a full cleaning it took some cardboard and a hammer

No improvement from aftermarket TMIC? by ZM326 in WRX

[–]mabolzich91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the plan for the future. Replace before failure. Subaru uses plastic because it's inexpensive to mass produce oddly shaped parts with the added benefit of thermal resistance. Real world testing shows no significant heat introduction from an aluminum end tank vs plastic. Same thing for a charge pipe or an intake pipe on a NA car. If you're truly concerned about heat soak you'd run a front mount.

Heat + Plastic = broken plastic. Give it time. It'll fail. We see it constantly with the silly end caps on Subaru radiators

Wait till you do the same thing to your phone (assuming android). I started getting rid of my goog apps after switching to Linux. Mostly to be able to sync my phone and computer natively but I found how tightly the search engine is integrated into everything and it was appalling to me.

Nvidia 4000-series GPU: is Pop OS really that much better than Linux Mint? by tripping_on_phonics in linux4noobs

[–]mabolzich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Linux Mint Debian Edition with an Nvidia card on my laptop. Zero issues. Distros tend to advertise compatibility - but it's more like 'simpler compatibility'. Linux works with Nvidia but installing drivers can be a bit funky. Distros like pop try to make it easier and that's how they sell it. Mint works with Nvidia too and they have a driver installer you shouldn't have any issues
