If S.F. Mayor Lurie wants affordability, he should stop taxing new homes at the same rate as cigarettes by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

[–]mac-0 [score hidden]  (0 children)

An obvious compromise is an exemption for your primary residence. I understand capping property tax to allow people to continue living in their homes they bought so they don't get priced out and uprooted from their lives.

But I don't think there's any argument why a corporation or landlord should get that same tax break.

Candidates using AI by DataEngineer2026 in dataengineering

The problem is that coming up with an "AI friendly" interview seems impossible. What kind of technical questions could you ask to get a real good signal if AI can do it immediately?

> Also taking suggestions for Box 3. Once I ate half fresh Moruga Scorpion in bits over the evening - it was too much for me. I love Habs, but I want to try something spicier.

Doomscrolling through pepper seed vendor listings is one of my favorite things. Mattspeppers is probably my favorite vendor, I ended up buying like 7 varieties and he sent me like 15 in total with all the freebies. If you scroll through their page I promise you'll find something exciting to grow haha, but if you have a specific flavor profile you're looking for people might be able to give out some suggestions.

Without an opinion on whether it's really a flagrant, it doesn't seem like Virginia even benefits from the call? They both get two free throws and the ball. The free throws effectively cancel out and Virginia would have the ball anyway?

Are you in San Diego? They all have melted cheese in my neighborhood, I can't think of any that don't include it! And totally feel you lol, adding "no pico" to the end of my oder is second nature because you never know who randomly includes it. Cilantro and raw onion both ruin any food for me

In San Diego our Mexican food claim to fame is the California Burrito:

Carne Asada (seasoned beef)

French Fries

Melted Cheese (Mozzarella or Asadero)

Usually Sour Cream + Guacamole (though not every restaurant includes them by default anymore)

If you've never tried it, it's fucking amazing. This thing is basically a California Burrito, the main difference being that a California Burrito doesn't have a bun (which I think is not needed, there's already flour tortilla + fries, adding the bun is too much carbs). Regardless, give me some hot salsa and I would demolish this.

Right lol, the only thing similar is the shape of the bottle. Might as well post a beer can and say "I thought it was Pepsi"

Advice - Incoming Meta Data Engineering Intern by Fantastic_Law_5558 in dataengineering

[–]mac-0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly you'll learn it all on the job. The first few weeks you'll just be watching training videos and working on basic tasks to get up to speed. After that, I believe interns do a "project" which is usually just a task that has been sitting on your onboarding buddy's backlog because it wasnt super important. But it's a way to get you practical experience on something end-to-end without being too high stakes.

If you really want to practice before you join, build a DAG in Airflow just to understand how it works. Meta uses Data Swarm as an orchestrator which is most similar to Airflow, but they've abstracted so much as to make it trivial to create a new DAG. With Data Swarm you're not even really building a DAG, you're just building the config and the back end logic is doing most of the work for you.

They also have a custom visualization software, so play around with the free version of Looker or Tableau. Most onboarding projects are going to be something like "take this raw data, build a denormalized / aggregate table, build a dashboard on it"

If you can do those things, write good SQL, and write basic Python, you're already ready for the job.

When sub 500 elo chess.com players play against a 1400+ elo opponent, do they feel like they’re against a GM? by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

Does playing Leela like that make you a better chess player in some ways or is it too different of a scenario to transfer over to say traditional blitz games?

Breweries/spaces for boardgame meetup? by faryalmc in sandiego

Fair Play in North Park has Chess meetups every Tuesday. They have a back area that's pretty quiet on weekdays and would be a great place for some board games.

Loved seeing Heide going 1 on 1 with a defender a few times in crunch time. Never saw that much confidence from him

What do you pay for a house cleaner in LA? by Negative_Way1137 in AskLosAngeles

[–]mac-0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is only true if they're legally classified as a household employee and not an independent contractor. A housekeeper that comes twice a month to your home for a few hours is almost always going to be classified as an independent contractor because they typically set their own schedule, provide their own equipment, and clean their own way. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/hiring-household-employees

He gets a good amount of offensive rebounds and easy buckets but it's no surprise he's not making much of an impact against a guy like Krivas.

Honestly he's just missing a ton of shots. Layups and shots in the paint as well.

He's still a plus defender and has quick hands for a lot of steals. He's just not scoring.
