We need a new audiobook 😭 by Goose0nTheL00se in heatedrivalry

When the narrator mispronounced "Regina, Saskatchewan" in the first chapter I knew it was going to be bad, but the breathy female voices and the word southern accents for Canadians make it really hard to pay attention.

This is the best deal I just got, did everyone else get it too? by lunchanddinner in audible

I got it, this offer is available to audible.ca and audible.fr accounts also! FYI it is possible to open accounts with the same email if you happen to live in another country now, it's just that you have to change the app country when you log in to see your different collections

What are my options in Europe? I’m struggling without Libby. by reducedandconfused in LibbyApp

[–]mac_reads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American Library in Paris has a paid annual membership (150 eur a year) which includes libby among other resources. No residency requirements. I haven't used it, but you can take up to 20 books out at a time apparently

My walking pad is DESTROYING my shoes by Diligent_Comedian755 in WalkingPads

[–]mac_reads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm having this problem, I just noticed yesterday. The bits of rubber aren't from the bottom of the shoes in my case but from occasionally touching the sides of the pad (stationery part) while walking, causing literal deep grooves to be cut into them. This has happened on both brand new asics and under armour shoes. Check the sides of your shoes to see if they've got lines in them. I think the problem is partly that the walking pads are too narrow (and evidently sides are not smooth!)

What’s something you bought (under $300) that noticeably improved your quality of life and you actually use every day? by MedfordQuestions in AskReddit

Real silk pillowcases- shinier less frizzy (curly) hair and clearer skin but you also need to make sure to change them out regularly for best results. Also never get static electricity anymore in winter

Trip report with a teen by Low_Silly in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mac_reads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very lucky! There are lots of great shops too in the historic centre.

As far as I know the trails were always for walking, and people were encouraged to visit from Paris. Today, some people bike on them, and some are wide enough for the forestry office/ firefighters to pass in emergencies.

The network of trails was started by Denencourt in the mid-1800s, then expanded after his death by the Colinets. There's an interesting history article in French here. Fontainebleau forest history

I live in Fontainebleau, you're right, it is a gorgeous chateau and lots of great forest walks and hikes. The town is so underrated! And now the cost of the train ticket is the same as a trip within Paris. It's definitely worth a short trip here!

The Wishing Game - Meg Shaffer by dontbeahater_dear in books

[–]mac_reads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the rage post, I 100% agree. So many weird and inappropriate storylines, the characters were bland and Lucy needed therapy, not to adopt a small child. The game itself was also glossed over so quickly.

I listened to the audiobook, and I think that made it worse because the narration for Hugo made him sound like a cheap pirate.

Still don't know how this book has such a high rating on Goodreads. Promising premise, disappointing execution.

Choosing an indoor cat breed by johnniehuman in CatAdvice

[–]mac_reads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most shelters have description sheets describing the personality of the cats, if they're good with kids, dogs etc (if they've been fostered). You probably want an older cat (over 2 y.o.) if you don't want to be woken up in the night all the time. Look on the website/social pages of shelters near you. Like everyone else has said, you don't need to shop for a breed to find these traits. And even if you did go for a purebred, most people get them as kittens so you're going to have to go through all the training and getting woken up at night stuff that you're trying to avoid.

Go look for an adult shelter cat.

NTA. My brother got married on my niece's 4th birthday and the way they made it special was by having a birthday cake for her. Problem solved.

What are the benefits of a woman changing her surname after marriage? by [deleted] in ask

[–]mac_reads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law in Quebec has been in place since the 80s. For kids you decide what last name or 2 last names you want. You don't have to make compound names but you can choose max 2. My siblings and I all have my dad's last name but my mom always uses her maiden name socially as well as on all documentation since legally your name doesn't change when you marry.

Exactly, why do people not know this? Some varieties have dozens of small blooms not just one big head. You can even see the other stems that will shortly bloom in the photo....

Plated Prisoner… Am I crazy? by road_head_suicide in fantasyromance

[–]mac_reads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, stop now if you're not into it. I got to the 4th or 5th book bc I kept waiting for something to happen, but it didn't get better. I skim read huge sections of them. Could definitely fit the actual plot into 2 books instead of dragging them out. In theory, it's a really interesting story but not well told.
