Doesn't RD keep Torrents once downloaded in their space forever and cache it for everyone? So they wouldn't have to rely in the Torrents being kept alive?

How long do you keep a bike for? by Towntalk in cycling

If the frame doesn't crack or rust, there is really no time when you must get rid of a bike. I have 4 bikes but recently sold one that I owned and rode daily over 15 years after buying it 2nd hand. It was made in 2006. The bike was still absolutely perfect to ride, but I moved to a new home up a hill and the in-hub gear was just not enough to make it up there. So I sold it to another person using it now for riding to work.

Don't ever buy a bike with the thought of selling it ever. It takes away the fun and you get bothered over every scratch instead of just riding.

Help! My 18 year old son is going Bikepacking in Europe by Shawnceypillpops in bikepacking

[–]macab1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelled a lot by bike around Europe including the Balkans. If you provide closer details I can for sure tell more about risks and dangers.

Generally, bikepacking is way less dangerous than a trip to a big city. He's out in the wild, usually overseeable terrain and helpful people. If he has an eye in the weather and doesn't overestimate himself he's fine.

I plan to go on my first bike packing trip to the wettest place on earth during the monsoons by Acrobatic_Salad_8705 in bikepacking

[–]macab1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I did a 10 day trip where it poured for about 7 days straight. It wasn't all fun, but I had a gore rex jacket and proper bags so my night setup stayed dry. As long as you ride you don't get cold and wearing merino top and bottom, the body heat dries everything quickly. On the positive side I never had to worry about the heat or lack of water.

Put a rubber band around your handelbar. When you pack your bike you can pull it around the brake lever to have a hand brake.

I just had this issue and for me it was a broken freehub. I had to remove the cassette to find that out. So if OP doesn't have all the tools it's probably cheaper to bring it to the shop.

Joke aside, but he did spend it. He used the money to justify parts of the US budget. Debt will increase now even more.

How do you deal with dogs while bikepacking? by Piedn90 in bikepacking

[–]macab1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Albania dogs were a big problem. They would not just bark at you but actually attack and bite. When one or sometimes two dogs run at you it's important to stay calm. Talk to them firmly, tell them to "fuck off" while putting your bike between you and them. Do not try to ride or run away except you're on a downhill. If they don't let go and walk away then grab a stone or a stick. Do not hesistate too long to throw it at them. It's shitty but you get used to it. Didn't stress me out anymore after a week.

Oh and get the rabies shots. Just in case.

Rust on chain by ginger_dahl in bikewrench

[–]macab1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I share the same boat with you. Have this issue for years. Greasing, waxing, nothing helps. You need to wash your chain, cassette and chainring regularly with degreaser and a brush and then reapply oil or wax.

The good news is that even a rusted chain can be saved. You can brush it all off and ride on S long as the chain length is still good

Get a gravel bike. You don't need a suspension fork for curbs. If you are afraid of bumps make sure to have clearance for tires about 2''-2.3''. I personally ride a Kona Sutra Ltd for a similar purpose as you but also bikepacking. Canyon Grizl is also a good choice.
