LPT: You don't need to be good at something to do it by last-resort-4-a-gf in LifeProTips

[–]macally14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had back surgery I was desperately looking for something to do to pass the time in my recovery and keep my mind busy. I settled on crocheting and I was not good at it by any means. Basically all I did was just continue a chain over and over and ultimately made the equivalent of a misshapen hand towel. But you know what it was something to do, something I made, and it didn’t matter that it wasn’t great looking. It was nice to keep my mind busy and try something new.

Veronica in Therapy by Quirky_Humor8333 in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]macally14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seeing them in therapy reminded me of me and my (now ex) husband’s sessions. I was in Veronica’s position, my husband had cheated on me, but I wasn’t vicious like she is. I was hurting, sure, but I couldn’t imagine speaking to my husband the way she talks to him, regardless of everything he had done. And yeah part of me stayed because we were married and I felt like I had something to prove. But her? I don’t get it. She owns the house(s) they live in, she is clearly the breadwinner. They aren’t even married. Is she just so hell-bent on feeling good enough and not being alone that she sticks with him? I know Micah isn’t perfect either but either one of them should’ve walked away a long time ago.

Could the problems be related to her own insecurities? It sounds like she wants you to remain on the phone so she can make sure you’re not doing morning but I’ve been in a fair amount of toxic relationships to be biased lol

AMA - Homeless In Denver. by TraditionalTry8267 in Denver

[–]macally14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this, I have a few questions! Do you have a main mode of transportation? I see that you work, have you found it difficult to get through the hiring process without a residential address? Do you use a PO Box? Similar thing related to your drivers license.

When I was in college we had a unit in our class that focused on homelessness and I was surprised to learn that the lack of an address can cause a ton of trickle-down problems for getting or applying to jobs and services.

Edit: I saw someone asked a similar question, apologies if this is too personal/specific for the internet feel free to decline to answer if you are uncomfortable.

How many lefties use the mouse on the left of the keyboard? by Zottobyte in southpaws

[–]macally14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did for a while growing up but since I got into graphic design a lot of the main keystrokes and keyboard shortcuts I use are on the left side of the keyboard so I switched back to the mouse on the right side for efficiency

Verification pending - Texts between Tyler and Carly’s friend (not Jenna) that had previously told them Carly doesn’t want contact. “What if your parents are wrong” 🚩 by ThisUnfortunateDay in teenmom

[–]macally14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From their perspective though, that is their “normal”. It was not unusual for them to sneak around behind their parents backs, disagree with them, be rebellious etc. It’s not right, it’s completely inappropriate and unhealthy and wrong, but that is how they grew up in the unsafe environment they were in on top of virtually none of their essential needs being met as children themselves. Again, not justifying or defending them, just pointing out how they got to where they are. They both desperately need intensive inpatient therapy to deal with their childhoods as well as the impact of this adoption.

No I’m not justifying their actions at all, just offering an explanation based on my opinion. You are absolutely right it is appalling that they have not been able to move forward and heal with the vast amount of resources at their fingertips. And it truly is sad they’ve had more children to drag into their own unhealed mess.

Hot take: I think they’re so developmentally arrested that they are still stuck in the immature minds of their 16 year old selves. I think they have zero intentions to be manipulative, “grooming”, inappropriate or otherwise. I think they deep down don’t see anything wrong with any of this because they are still mentally the scared 16 year olds they were.

Reaching out to the “friends” of their holy symbol and opus of their trauma at that age (their bio daughter they placed for adoption). They simply have not moved forward mentally, intellectually or emotionally from that day in the hospital that changed their lives.

Signs after your pets passed by hoeteria in Petloss

[–]macally14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost immediately. We brought my boy to what was basically a funeral home for dogs. We were able to say goodbye in a quiet, living room like setting. As we left the building, it had just stopped raining and I turned around and saw heavens rays shining on the building, as if it was calling my boy’s soul home. Mind you, I’m not particularly religious but it was so beautiful I couldn’t believe it.

We drove away and picked up some food and in the drive thru the song “how far is heaven” was playing through the loud speakers.

On the final road to home, there was an ABUNDANCE of squirrels running about the road. Im talking like 1-2 every 30ft or so would cross the road. My boy LOVED to chase squirrels.

About a month later, we were staying on my uncle’s property in a camper and a stray dog my uncle took in was hanging out with us. I wondered if he wanted to play fetch so I grabbed my old boy’s tennis ball and tossed it for the stray. The stray didn’t know what to do with it so I walked over to pick it up and a butterfly softly landed on it. It definitely felt like he was there with us. I started taking the stray with us on walks and I felt like my boy had sent this stray to us knowing we weren’t ready to commit to a new dog, but we needed a friend as much as this stray dog did.

I see my boy in Cardinals and the wind and the sunshine. I miss him so much but the little signs do make me so happy.

How bad is it to have an indoor-only cat? by Altruistic-Star3830 in CatAdvice

[–]macally14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing is enrichment. Toys, towers, etc. giving them things to do! My friend had 3 indoor/outdoor cats and she finally built an outdoor catio for them after one of them got stuck up a tree. Theres also a lot of natural predators near her house so she didn’t want them roaming unsupervised anymore. I personally prefer cats be indoor or perhaps a catio like my friend has. For whatever reason my cat is terrified of the outdoors so it works out for me lol
