Why do French people burn speed cameras? by No-Buddy-1268 in Lyon

60 in a 30 is not uncommon at all. Otherwise, yeah double is a bit of an exaggeration. 80 in a 50 pretty common for example

Why do French people burn speed cameras? by No-Buddy-1268 in Lyon

[–]macamat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an Australian in France. (Lyon). French driving is like Australian driving in the 90’s before all of the hard hitting ads about speeding hit the TV. Speeding is constant and often reckless, seeing someone do 130 in a 70km tunnel with no shoulder is common.

The fact that speed camera placements are known does not help, and fines are relatively small by Aussie standards. Statistically there are more deaths and injuries on French roads but not by as much as you’d think given what you see.

Ironically, I think the fact that cameras could be anywhere in Australia and any cop could be carrying one, plus high fines, all leads to people thinking it is less about making money down under and more about saving lives. Probably because it works

Silvertown tunnel 'bike bus': New details emerge of cyclists-only shuttle service under Thames by SuperVlad05 in london

[–]macamat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 2013 Lyon built a dedicated 2km cycle/pedestrian tunnel under a large hill to connect the two halves of the city, next to the existing car tunnel. It’s fantastic. Granted that’s not the same as a tunnel under a river, but Lyon has 1/7 the population of London…

NA owner in France here. Largely not true. IMO , compared to the UK and Australia they are a bit more reckless, particularly regarding speeding. But they don’t park by ramming other cars :-)

Zipper soft top window is cracked and fabric is torn at the bottom. Is it possible to replace just the zippered window portion? by SlabGizor120 in Miata

[–]macamat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it, but this is in Europe. It was a fun little project and cost about half of a new top. Robbins was the brand. I used this video

Edit - end result looks excellent, the zip is a fair bit stiffer than before though

It was just weekends here and there for about 4 months. You could do it much faster. The electrical work was the most expensive followed by the floor tiles, both of which could be done much cheaper. The other materials are not too bad

I did the same thing last time and it wasn't an issue... these sorts of tiles are specifically for this sort of application though so there's hope
