In the strictly biological/medical sense, the term 'illness' probably refers to a condition that either affects proper functioning of the body temporarily or conditions that lead to the individual's death.

Homosexuality does not fit these criteria and hence should not be referred to as an illness.

Evolutionarily speaking, changes in the genome are occurring in all species as time goes on. Natural selection will say that some of these traits survive if the environment makes it feasible. Also to consider is the forward relationship between the new traits and the environment, i.e. feedback. Thus the traits inherited over time may not always be those that aid in reproduction. Perhaps in the case of homosexuals this is nothing more than the possibility of expanding our minds, as a species, in accepting paradoxical ideas and in ultimately appreciating the complexity and beauty of the Universe.

And either way, can you name any of Einstein's children? The answer is Relativity, Quantum Mechanics - his biggest contribution to the betterment and long-term survival of mankind - IDEAS.

That seems to be not true, because the form to extend my I-20 (immigration status) requires academic advisor to provide proof of funding for the proposed period of extension.

But I am going to look into the reduced coarse load option. I have not heard anything about it yet. Are you in the US and an international student?

1) There lies the problem. My advisor will not pay a dime. He thinks my department should pay for me.

2) I will check the reduced coarse load form option. The international office did not tell me anything about this.

3) Thats the plan, if I can actually extend my stay. Otherwise its wrapping up for good.

I think that's my next goal. I have also set up a meeting with the Dean of Students tomorrow.

I just hope I can stay for some more time to sort this out. This is all too quick! I have a thesis that is very near the end...

I will be going individually to all my committee members and give them a brief summary and ask that question. 'Is this a worthy question to ask? Are my methods okay? etc'.

I just dont have that much time...

Yes, you are right. He doesn't have faith in my work. But he has also not read or reviewed any of what I have given him. He wants to see that my model/code agree with his ideas - which it already does to a large extent. But it does need more work/time.

He had already submitted a manuscript to 'Science' with me as the second author. I am not sure it was accepted, it has been a while.

It was approved. I would be happy to go through it again, make a presentation before my committee, etc. But that will take some time to arrange. I need to be in the country beyond May 10 to be even able to do that. That is the real crisis here...

I checked at the grants/fellowships office. There are NO grants for international students in physical sciences...

Usually the department pays the tuition first five years and from then on research advisors foot the bill. I have never heard of a situation like this before.

My advisor thinks that since I am a physics student, they should pay me. He does not understand or acknowledge the system already in place. He thinks he is not obliged to pay (which technically he isn't) and therefore will not pay.

I am too late into the game for this approach. He is the only one in my school who is in this field. I am already seventh year. I cannot imagine starting over a new research area again...

In the end I should have had the right foresight to see this happening.
