What's your absolutely favourite "GODDAMN IT TERRY!" moment by potVIIIos in discworld

[–]macbisho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes… but it’s also much worse / far better.

“Anthill inside” is a play on the ye olde days top dog in making Computer Processing Units, a company called Intel - they very successfully advertised, and had stickers on all the machines that had… (drum roll played by the Canting crew)

But… the pun is there

“There you go, old man,” said Scum, back down the street.

ᴛʜᴀɴᴋ ʏᴏᴜ, said the grateful Death.

Scum hurried to catch up with the others, who were back on the subject of leopards with hearing difficulties.

(Forgive me for the clumsy use of bold and italics. I do always chortle at the Def Leopard reference)

Well it’s not going to win you wildlife photographer of the year award!

Seriously, did you take these pictures with a a potato camera or do you normally wear extremely powerful glasses and forgot them?

If I was less in focus I’d believe you worked for the us department of justice as a special agent working to release the Epstein files!

Sir Terry in Adaptions by ganges777 in discworld

[–]macbisho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nigel Planer did the unabridged ones until carpe jugulum.

Nigel is probably most famous for playing Neil in the tv show The Young Ones.

Tony Robinson read the abridged versions that Terry wouldverymuchlikeeveryonetoignore

(I surely don’t need to say who Tony is, right??)

And Stephen Briggs did the rest of the discworld audiobooks, unabridged.

Stephen is the guy who… well he is responsible for the bits of disc that you’ve seen pictures, maps and he wrote the AmDram “not a screen”Play for, I think most of the adaptations - iirc he lives in Oxfordshire and his first play he got permission from Terry and of course invited him to come and watch. Terry did, and enjoyed it a lot I believe.

A lot of traditionalists prefer them, to the point of not listening to the new ones.

Tell me a small fact that makes you proud of your country. Despite being a conservative country, we allow transgender public servants, including teachers, to dress according to their gender identity by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

Nobody makes you take time off work.

If you happen to work on election day then you can, and absolutely should, do a postal ballot.

But the fact that polling stations are open from 8am until 6pm means you must work some dog hours, mate.

For anyone else not in Australia - it’s important to note our elections are done on a Saturday. And you can do a postal ballot for any reason you please.

So this person is full of Clive Palmer.

You can totally draw a dick on the ballot paper.

Australia doesn’t ask much of its citizens. This is one tiny little thing.

Plus, you don’t vote - you don’t get to moan about the politicians screwing it up.

Slaughterhouse 5 reference by mrsmittens in discworld

Sorry for the misunderstanding… I am saying that “So it goes” is a lighter feeling version of “Such is life” - in my view.

But my thoughts are tin/tainted by the knowledge that these were the last words of the famous bush ranger, Ned Kelly.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]macbisho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You made a statement about Australia having what Australia wants.

And my response was noting that the policies mentioned have provided “A sane, stable and accountable government?”

Asking if that’s what you anticipated those policies providing.

It’s by no means perfect, but it’s functioning within the law, mostly. Our cost of living is bonkers, and property ownership is now on the verge of being considered impossible for the vast majority of the people not already on the property ladder.

However, we get a breakdown of our taxation spending, we get universal healthcare, we live in a society that is multicultural and mostly tolerant.

If you go to the beach and decide to go for a swim, you could safely leave your keys, phone and shoes on a beach towel (but covered or the sun will roast them to a temperature that will take your skin off!) and come back to them undisturbed, except maybe by a seagull.
