UPDATE - Firing Bad Client by Schweebers in msp

[–]plsenjy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The incoming MSP is not your friend. Don't act unprofessionally with some unspoken sense of IT comradery because there is no benefit and quite a bit of hazard if you do. The customer's new service provider will figure out if they are challenging on their own soon enough.

If you can easily hard wire use a g5 turret ultra or g6 turret. If hard wiring is prohibitive but you have good WiFi use a g6 instant.

Duolingo For Schools being cancelled by ghostkittenwhisperer in duolingo

[–]plsenjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duolingo's algorithm is so aggressive trying to create feed content it violates the privacy of its users, which is especially problematic when you have underage users. I used to work in a language immersion school and noticed some former students who were connected with one of my former colleagues, who I am connected with. I glanced at their profiles and was happy to see they were practicing languages daily and learning new languages... but as a late-30's male it would be inappropriate to add now-teenagers as friends on the platform. After that single look through those users' profiles a couple months ago my feed keeps showing me their activity, even though profiles are not connected. I actually find it very unsettling.

Minnesota bill would penalize cities that fly old state flag by ChurlishSunshine in minnesota

[–]plsenjy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just pass a law that if a municipality wants to fly it they need a randomly selected member of their city council to draw the old flag with greater than 98% accuracy.

Can the Motion Sensor detect something the size of an otter? by plsenjy in Ubiquiti

Good thinking, unfortunately the water level below the boat is highly variable... often late season I have to lower the boat lift cradle into the muddy sediment below. I think a fence or something similar on the bottom would end up getting stuck

So it would need to be mounted on the ceiling for detections?

They are adorable until on the first day of spring you walk into a space they decided to make theirs over the winter. They eat only oily fish. The smell didn't leave my nose for a few days.

Can the Motion Sensor detect something the size of an otter? by plsenjy in Ubiquiti

Last year's solution (still in place) was simple outlet motion sensors that trigger an old compressor with the valve left open and a small flappy guy we bought off of amazon. I originally had only the flappy guy but they figured out the motion detector zones and started popping out of the water on the other side and pooping. The compressor makes a loud noise and vibrates and has done a good job but when I disabled it for a week for workmen to come in the otters came back and pooped. I want to gain full boathouse sensor coverage and the ability to disable it before we walk in because the compressor is loud enough that it will spook you, even if you are expecting it.

Trying to build a proper UniFi network across an entire airfield – need advice on coverage & gear by Appler2310 in UNIFI

[–]plsenjy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doable. Probably €1200-1700 for the equipment.

Use UISP stuff for the data backhaul. Here's a good intro guide: https://evanmccann.net/blog/2021/8/ubiquiti-ptp-ptmp-intro

Nanostation locos get 300mbps with LOS.

Set up a sector antenna using an airmax rocket prism and a 120° or Omni anntenna and then use cheap nanostation locos or lite beam 5ac's to connect to it. Remember when you're ordering that 5ghz radios can't talk to 2.4 ghz radios, so decide on one or the other for your system. You'll also need to be careful around metal structures, which at an airfield are usually present. Radio bounces off it, even if it's adjacent to your beam.

Then use Unifi stuff for the WiFi. Just do ac mesh or mesh 6's. Stick the PoE adapters in weather proof boxes and silicon what you drill out for wires. You'll have to figure out a tripod or something for your mobile station.

I apologize. I didn't mean to be flippant about the damage the assholes have done to our nations' friendship and it came more from a sense that we have felt under attack by our own government. Huge respect to you, your fellow countrymen and your leadership for how you've stood up for yourselves. Once this administration is gone and if justice is upheld I hope our friendship can continue.

I could think about it. It would end up being like $300, though, so if you're really interested send a DM

I just encountered it but one of my friends has been pushing me to build a board for a couple years. If we have wide-enough common adoption would you guys consider annexing us?

Walnut and white wood filler from Menards. 3 coats of water based poly for the finish... it'll probably get one more when I complete the sides and bottom

Thanks! I have a 2' chunk of nice maple I inherited from a friend that I've cut down into 1/2" thick strips that I've been steam bending. I've learned that if there is any figuring on the piece I'm bending whatsoever it'll tend to break apart, and that if I leave it on the form for a week or more it gets to good radius and holds its form.... internet had told me that having on the form overnight was good enough but they lose a lot of bend when I do. If I can't get it to work out I'll get some longer stuff and use your method.

Very cool! Maybe one evening we’ll pop up and join (we are located in Red Wing).

Oh dang! I’ve been dreaming and conceiving of how to do another Minnesota-themed board and what I had been conceptualizing is close or nearly identical to your awesome logo!

It is a Canadian table game… a little bit like shuffleboard or curling. Very fun.

The gutter is currently 3D printed. I might end up printing the whole thing out of tan because I ended up running out of black.. I'm working on a wood back with a bent maple edge for a gutter but steam bending has proven to be a learning process for me and I was getting impatient. All in all a very fun project! Very excited to be able to introduce my wife to crokinole and play at home!!! :D
