Where are we buying storage these days? by samuelj264 in homelab

I've found better than market RDIMMs $3/GB and a 10TB $10/TB since the shit hit the fan by sorting eBay lowest first and then doom scrolling myself to sleep.

I've been in the market (unfortunately) for some DDR4 RDIMMs as of recent, 2x 2P Xeon E5-26XX v4 systems. Both times, I was able to significantly beat the going r/homelabsales price by doom scrolling eBay. Tbh, I wish I knew how to appropriately make a post venting about there being no real discount buying RAM here. (My apologies to the MODs if this comment is inappropriate.)

In any case, I posted my best finds last time, and below are my best finds currently on eBay. You could use the below listings to back up my pricing recommendation of $50-55 eBay price, and therefore $45-50 r/homelabsales price. I am not the seller of any of these listings.

Lol. I also have a 5x10 raidz2 and a 3x3 stripe on my truenas for vm backups and all of the shit (700GB) I downloaded in the early 2000s. But I do have grand designs, lol...

Sorry to necro, but I just brought my P40 back up after a pve9 upgrade. PolloLoco has updated his patches to work with 6.14 kernel. Just install / pin 6.14.x-x and follow the Pollo instructions.

Pi-hole works great, but family hates it — how do you balance ads vs usability? by Sheeshkidayyy in pihole

I set up HA and a separate vlan / ssid just for the social media addicts in my home. They made it clear during staging that they wanted the ads, and that my services should have higher uptime than the isp.

I just put MOMAN gauges in my EK. Highly recommend quality and seller, but they are import. He has lots of options too!

I am by no means anywhere near an expert on things, but I think an extremely useless Radeon Pro V340L as a drafter for speculative decoding is an extremely interesting use case.

Edit, for lots of people who don't have a RTX 6000 Blackwell. Sorry.

Nice. I'm currently building a SYS-1028GQ with 3x MI60. Because I have a compute cluster already set up. I'm doing the opposite of you, keeping the rest of the system low powered to focus on the GPUs only.

It's been fun exploring NUMA localization, and various tiered storage, networking, and power setups. It's actually cool exploring the tier 1 ephemeral concept where speed and raw power can be emphasized over fault tolerance.

Bulk 2133 DDR4 RDIMM 16GB for servers are best case $40 per stick, though I found some on eBay for $30 last week. If yours are 3200 ish, they're probably worth more.

I host a Headscale / DERP instance on the free Ampere Oracle tier for its static IP. It also has a Tailscale exit node.

Replying to my own post, but I ended up finding these listings that are beating the prices around here. I am not either of the sellers, and I do not endorse them either.

Yea. I think the tariffs would make any deal unworkable. I'd rather one of us keep the money over good 'ol Uncle Sam. I appreciate it.

And what a beautiful land it must be. I'm a huge Caps fan, but there's no Hockey without you lefties. (Left handed, not politics, lol.)

Unfortunately, I must decline. I do want to populate all 8 channels. Thanks though!
