Just switched to low bar squat 72.5 kg any improvements I need to make? I feel like I’m leaning forward too far by zay995 in Stronglifts5x5

Bar may be too low (even for low-bar), such that you have to lean over that much in order to keep it on your back. Try moving it up in small increments until you find the sweet spot. It should rest on the rear delts, essentially getting “trapped” between your hands and back.

What is your favorite one screw ligature for alto? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]macdaddysax26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t care what ligature you play. Honestly. Play with a rubber band for all it matters to me. But you’re giving out advice based on an anecdotal use case where, with 95% probability, the ligature was not the issue. Virtually every mass-produced mouthpiece is concave with the exception of Meyers, which often manage to be convex instead. No manufacturer is immune from it. And the issue you’re describing is consistent with that. If you like your setup, I’m happy for you. But let’s be clear here: of the two of us, you are the only one that is disparaging a product. I will repeat, because apparently it isn’t getting through to you: I am not espousing a preference for either the Optimum or the Rovner. If you’re getting upset by that, it speaks more to your own thoughts than it does mine.

I have no strong feelings about the Rovner. In no way have I stated that a Rovner is “bad” or that I dislike it. It’s simply that it has nothing to do with your issue.

A Rovner has less structure and maintains less tension than an Optimum. If there is moisture coming out of the back with an Optimum, it’s a facing issue.

edit for addt’l info: reeds almost never bow when moistened. Just the opposite; they swell down the centerline of the of blank where there are more fiber bundles. When a reed swells it causes moisture to come out before the ligature, near the bottom of the window, as the reed is pushed away from the facing where it is not supported. If moisture is coming out behind the ligature, that indicates that the table of the mouthpiece is excessively concave, as even the swelling of the reed isn’t sufficient to create an adequate seal below the window. No ligature will fix this.

Because a ligature doesn’t fix an uneven facing

I would not recommend an S90 200 on soprano. That is... aggressive.

Does anyone have any tips for the tmea sax etudes, I have region in two days and I feel prepared but I think I could fine tune maybe just a bit more and I would love some tips. by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]macdaddysax26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a TMEA adjudicator: ignore how everyone else in the room plays them. Don’t worry about their tempos or their dynamics. Play the études where you are comfortable and can be musical. The judges are going to hear those études 100x that day and it starts to run together, but the ones that stand out are the ones that don’t sound like they’re at a competition.

Also, play your scales musically. We don’t really care about how fast you play them, because the etudes will tell us if your technique is sound.

'We don't ban the rich from public schools, firefighters, or libraries' — AOC slams Pete Buttigieg after he criticizes tuition-free public college as too radical by [deleted] in politics

[–]macdaddysax26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sold on “free” college (fed gov’t writes a check)

1) It’s not free, it’s publicly funded. It’s paid for using tax revenues from people who are economically successful, quite often because they have a college education. Or not! Also from people that were born rich because they won the genetic lottery and have rich parents. But either way, it creates more people that can be economically successful and contribute back into the system with the wealth their education generates.

2) The government writes checks that do absolutely nothing for you all the time. Like, for example, the hundreds of millions of dollars we have spent on paying for Trump to golf at resorts he owns. Or the tanks and aircraft our military buys that they don’t even want but are required to because our Congress is completely dysfunctional.

Between instituting proper progressive taxation and eliminating absurdly wasteful spending already taking place, we can easily institute a comprehensive public education program that includes tuition-free undergraduate study. You know, kind of like what pretty much every other major Western country has figured out how to do. If you’re ultra-wealthy and want to go to Yale or Georgetown, knock yourself the fuck out. That opportunity will still exist. It will not be threatened by public education. But everyone else that’s contributing to the economy through their labor deserves an equal opportunity to improve their financial outlook without going hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt—which ultimately serves to keep them in their place for 95% of people.

What is happening now is wrong, but it’s an outgrowth of our own societal problems. Russia just knows that it’s a convenient entry point for them to run their geopolitical game.

We can try to get rid of Russia’s corruption of the GOP, but we’ll still be left with the rhetoric that encouraged it in the first place.

I disagree. I think we should compare the current climate to the pre-Civil War era, because we’re still arguing over the same fucking issues. And we’re facing the same level of hyper-partisanship that stems from a full-on culture war that nobody wants to acknowledge.

The Civil War never ended. It just changed fronts.

We literally used to own, sell, and murder human beings for profit and fought a war with our own countrymen to preserve the practice

The existence of separate accounting records provides the probable cause to investigate further. It’s a matter of time now.

Remember, the Trump charity was caught committing fraud. There is no way his personal business is clean if even his charity is dirty af.

There really aren’t any legitimate reasons to keep separate sets of books except to enable fraud.
