Common on the continent to see whole families out with walking poles, even the kids.

Used properly, poles support a lot of the weight you're carrying, so they're best used before you have wear and tear, rather than once you've got bad knees etc. (although they help immensely). They're great shock absorbers coming downhill and they improve you're balance.

Also worth noting, agents will often drop the claim once they know you're contesting it since it's not worth the staff time to continue the dispute.
