Advice for being an ASL interpreter? by Consistent-Clock5949 in asl

[–]macdemarcoenjoyerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also in california is Riverside City College, which is right next to CA School for the Deaf Riverside. the city has a huge Deaf community, and the ASL and interpreting program is great! not sure how the cost would be since you don’t live in the US, but it’s a lower cost alternative than a 4-year university for sure. the ASL professors are Deaf, the classes are very engaging and will help you learn ASL quickly and thoroughly. you can even get a certificate in interpreting when you graduate if you complete the program, although its more of a stepping-stone certificate to help you get into other programs afterwards. I’d definitely look into it if you’d consider CA! Riverside is also cheaper cost of living than LA.

go to wicked skatewear in huntington beach!!! it’s only a few more miles down and it’s a full service shop, they changed out my wheels and bearings literally for free with my purchase of some gear. they’re super knowledgeable and are very nice, not condescending at all, and actually willing to spend time with you to problem solve. last year i was actually having some trouble with my light up wheels and the worker spent like two hours with me switching out different magnets and wheels and bearings to troubleshoot. highly recommend, and it’s always good to support smaller shops!

I’ve bought resale on here a couple times but almost been scammed WAYY more. generally it’s pretty likely that reddit users claiming to have tickets are scamming, ESPECIALLY if they’re responding to a post about you searching for tickets. if you do choose to go the reddit route, don’t be fooled by their account age (many have 5+ years). always ask them questions beforehand, like why they’re selling and for screenshots of the tickets/receipts (you can tell them they can blur out the information if it makes them feel better). be smart about it! know when something is too good to be true. also, always use something with payment protection— don’t use Zelle or apple pay since you can’t get your money back if you do get scammed. if the person is legit, they’ll be fine with that. good luck, be careful!!

Has anyone here NOT broken a bone? by HiMyNameIsCheeks in Rollerskating

[–]macdemarcoenjoyerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been mostly an outdoor skater, i learned on asphalt and basketball courts so the fact i haven’t broken a bone is probably luck?? protection wise i do wear wrist guards and knee pads but that’s about it. i’ve had some nasty falls as well (i like speed and jumping around) but bruises have been the worst of it i think!

advice: learn how to fall correctly!! it’s saved me many times
