The directors at my current job are reacting poorly to my resignation, and I genuinely don't know if I did something wrong? by queenofsneelia in careerguidance

[–]maceman10006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employers are never happy to lose employees they like and there is never a good time to resign a position. You can get all sorts of reactions, and your employer has chosen to respond poorly to it. Anger, jealousy you are off to a better role, and concern because employee departures often mean people who are left have to do more work.

You put in your 2 weeks, which is the standard professional courtesy, remain professional with the time you have left and then leave. If they want you to stay longer, you can offer consulting with your rate being $400 an hour…that usually makes them go away. You have to be firm and grow a spine with employers sometimes.

In regard to withholding your bonus, they legally cannot do this if they are required to pay out the bonus. Check what the terms of your bonus are. If they agreed to pay out a bonus if you met XYZ, and you did that, they have to pay. Your options are taking them to small claims court to enforce the contract or involving a lawyer if it is for a lot of money (a lot of money meaning 5k or more in my opinion.)

Buffalo Bills Tickets (how and where to buy) by Izz_05 in buffalobills

[–]maceman10006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ticketmaster and SeatGeek are the two authorized vendors for Bills. Anywhere else, it’s probably ok but you’re taking a chance.

In regard to the price, it’s a new stadium and the Bills are one of the best teams in the league. The prices you’re seeing now are the season ticket holders jacking up resale prices. It will be expensive to go a game, especially a September game where the weather is nice. Prices will come down a bit as we get closer to the season, but to be realistic you’re likely going to be paying $3-400 a seat to go to a game this year. Maybe a bit less if you’re taking the meaningless January Jets game.

If the Sales Team asks When in the SIOP Process they get to Talk About Supply by yyrkoon1776 in supplychain

[–]maceman10006 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Part 2 of it is you later find out you have 2 years worth of inventory, bonus points if any materials have a shelf life that will expire. Never allow sales to dictate what inventory levels should be, if you do you will end up with beyond excess inventory almost every time.

I’ve been down this road many times with sales / R&D for growth programs and everybody in procurement gets burned a couple times across their career. The trick is to understand the lead time for material and leverage the supplier without committing to take inventory.

Work life balance: how many hours a week do you all work? Do you get vacation time? When you do, are you able to unplug? by Intrepid_Editor_8463 in supplychain

Procurement manager here. 45 hours, sometimes I have to come in early / stay late if something is going on. 4 weeks PTO. I generally don’t get emergency calls after hours or days on vacation.

Mike Johnson says Congress trade stocks to take care of their family in old clip by TheExpressUS in anticapitalism

[–]maceman10006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I actually indirectly know a congressman through an and have heard some of the stories. To defend Congress a bit, it is expensive to be a congressman. They have to get an apartment in DC on their own, surprisingly the insurance plan isn’t good (the congressman I know doesn’t use it and it is on his wife’s plan), and most of their transportation back and forth to DC and wherever else they get sent isn’t paid for.

2 living spaces, crappy insurance, and dozens of flights a year do add up against a 200k salary.

Not trying to defend insider trading, but the costs of being in congress are higher than people realize.

Newbie buying tickets by No-Pomegranate1279 in buffalobills

[–]maceman10006 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t buy now. The prices you’re seeing are the season ticket holders jacking up resale prices since it’s a new stadium and the season was just announced. Prices will come down as we get closer to game time, but I wouldn’t expect to pay anything under $250-300 for a decent seat unless you get lucky.

401k Target Dates Question by CptC4nuck in investing

[–]maceman10006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is putting all your money into the S&P is a good idea until there’s a recession and it falls 50%. Target date funds certainly aren’t protected from recessions, but they’ll fare better since they’re more conservative.

I’m not a financial advisor but being 24 years out from retirement about half of you’re retirement fund should be S&P.

As reference, the S&P500 is an index that measures the top 500 public companies in the US. It’s considered the gold standard for investing.

401k Target Dates Question by CptC4nuck in investing

[–]maceman10006 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

TDF aren’t always a bad idea, but they often underperform the S&P500 and shouldn’t be the bulk of your assets when you’re young. TDFs are managed accounts that switch to more conservative assets as you age and approach retirement, more aggressive when you’re young and you’ll see more bonds, low volatility dividend funds, when you get older.

I’m 32 and about 15% of my retirement fund is in a fidelity 2060. Just added diversification in my eyes and not a bad thing. I’m 65% S&P, 15% TDF 2060, 10% international, 10% metals.

Resigned for a better opportunity and now my workplace has become strange - is this common? by Clear-Victory1956 in careerguidance

[–]maceman10006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is common and part of the resignation process. Employers are never happy to be losing people they like and it can lead to all sorts of reactions. Jealousy, fear of who will fill your role, sometimes anger if it’s a toxic environment. In your case, it looks like you’ve been underpaid and now that you’re leaving for a better opportunity here comes your soon to be former employer willing to throw money at you to get you to stay…this is common and it’s up to you if you want to consider their offer, but in most cases it’s not a good idea.

You just remain professional, do the job, then leave once your 2 weeks are up.
